My wife had looked up some home food serving restaurants in the area as we were staying for an extended duration , Neelam’s kitchen was top of that list.
I wasn’t so convinced as the diner did not figure on either of Zomato or swiggy , but it had number of google reviews so we decided to try this place.
Since it was anant chaturdashi, a host of Ganpati processions were being taken out and it was pretty loud and crowded in the neighbourhood.
We located the place, and climbed three floors worth of steep stairs to reach the rooftop. A few tables and chairs with lamps on the railing, nothing fancy or tasteful in the ambience. Apparently , we were the first customers of the evening. Someone came to take our order, we ordered 1 thali and 1 daal baati but were told to either order both thaalis or daal baatis, we ordered 2 daal baatis.
After waiting for half an hour or so, our order arrived , piping hot daal with fresh and hot baatis, dhaniya and lassan chatney, with onions and lemon.
Spices were kept in check as we had requested , the food was simply sumptuous and easy on the stomach.
We asked for another round of baatis and daal, it was probably the first time I asked for a refill of portions in an unlimited thali.
I am sure we will be visiting this place many times during our stay...
Read moreCame here for dinner one night as it was close to my hotel and it came so highly recommended on TA. The restaurant is up 3 flights of steep steps and I thought to myself, this better be good for all this climbing. Inside, it’s decorated like a cheap restaurant with plastic chairs and tables you’d see in street stalls, and about as hygienic. There a simple two sided menu with plenty of vegetarian options.
I ended up ordering plain rice and Tarka Dal. It’s a simple, but tasty dish with pulses that I’ve had many times before. The dal could’ve been soup, such was the barely present pulses. The rice was warm and cooled down fast, so I ended up having to really mixture the rice and dal to keep the meal from getting too cold.
After finishing the meal and walking back down the stairs, I happened to see the kitchen and it was not a pretty sight.
Honestly, I don’t know what all the fuss was about and the hygiene of the place left a lot...

We got this place on maps while looking for some local reasonably food with some amazing taste. Expectations were high as per the reviews but we knew that it's not a fancy place. So if you are tired of trying our cafes, bars and fancy Rajasthani thali franchises then give this place a try.
You will not regret if you are willing to try some amazing food across the busy city of udaipur.
Located right upstairs of indusind bank ATM. Easy to locate from the main road. But it's a small dining restaurant so do not expect fancy decor but the food is really really tasty.
Thanks Neelam aunty for the amazing food and Raju uncle for lovely stories of Rajasthan.
(We talked for around 30 mins with uncle after finishing our food & he has really great stories...
