The Cascade — Restaurant in Tamil Nadu

Most of the time I question WHY I take the trouble to share my Experiences. I guess the reasons are twofold : (1). I wish to CAJOLE readers to Elevate their EXPECTATIONS of our Restaurants which I find MOSTLY Terrible these days and to DEMAND the VALUE that ought to be provided .(2) I wish to CAJOLE the Owners of these Establishments to ELEVATE Their Own Standards for their Businesses and to Recruit and TRAIN Staff. Here is my PATHETIC Experience of CASCADE :

1). At about 7.30 pm on 28th Aug, I called the Restaurant to inquire if there would be a rush and if I need to reserve a table for TWO. The response was I do not need to reserve a table and I could WALK IN. 2). Upon arrival at the Restaurant, there was not much of a greeting by the Pot Bellied Man in WHITE @ the Desk ( With Black Trousers fallling to his Waist, Shirt Half Tucked In and a Red Tie Knot that Sat loosely upon an Unbuttoned Collar ) . I requested a Table for TWO and he stated there was none available and pointed me towards a Large Round Table ( to Seat SIX ). 😒 Hardly what One would expect and so I told him about my Phone Call to HIM. He stated that he would shift us as soon as a Table Became available - No Such Thing happened. Imagine TWO sitting at a Large Table for SIX !!!! 😂 3). I ordered for a Portion of MOMOS ( Prawns & Crab) and TWO Glasses of Fresh Lime with COLD Water and No ICE ( Salt / Sweet). 15 Minutes later, no drinks and I inquired of another Man in BLUE - 5 Minutes Later the Drinks arrived - Hardly COLD and to make matters worse : The Glasses were STICKY with the Sugar Syrup they used in the drink. 5). One Mr BABU RAM appeared to be the Waiter In Charge - Whose TEETH was what he used to communicate along with his CASUAL and Highly IRRITATING Attitude. Upon TWICE FollowING Up with Mr Babu Ram and His TEETH - the Momos Arrived ! The Stuffing hardly TASTED of Prawns OR Crab and the there was no SPOON to serve the Condiments ! ( See Pic ) 😞 4). The Man in WHITE did not Bother to inquire about the Main Course Order ( Despite my asking Mr White Teeth Babu Ram to take the Order ) and so in absolute FRUSTRATION - I actually SMS'D the Man in White the Dishes I desired.😀 Finally, when he appeared, I directed him to my SMS which he STRUGGLED to Read from His CHEAP Little Analog Mobile Phone ( I wonder why the Owners do not see fit to equip the man with an ANDROID Phone ). 5). Mr Babu Ram appeared with the food and proceeded to serve onto the plates used for the STARTERS - when I asked to bring FRESH Plates. He Cleared the Plates AND the Side Plates as well :-( and then brought Fresh Plates. The Food was PATHETIC...Tasted Insipid. The So Called " Tender Beef" was hardly "tender" and had Been Deep Fried in Corn Flour Batter. The So Called " Veggies in PLUM Sauce" was a THIN Gravy that Tasted more like Sweet Chilli Garlic Sauce. 6). Mr Babu Ram STRUTTED around the Place with His TEETH - NEVER Using a TRAY clearing Glasses from Tables with his Little Fingers stuck inside them....... Even in an ORDINARY Veg Restaurant Down the Road - One will Observe Waiters using TRAYS to Clear Soiled Plates from Tables......Not So in a HIGH END Restaurant like CASCADE 😠 7). There was NOT EVEN Piped Music Playing in the Restaurant - PATHETIC AMBIENCE !!! 😮‍💨

All Told, I paid the PRINCELY SUM of Rs 1911 incl Tax. At a Gross Food Billing of Rs 900 PER HEAD ( Nett of Taxes ) That is a RIP OFF for the LOUSY Experience Delivered by SUB STANDARD, POORLY TRAINED, CASUAL and NON CHALANT People who are PAID to Deliver Superior Service that is WORTH the Price that Gullible Customers PAY quite Begrudginly.

I am NEVER EVER Going BAck to this Lousy Restaurant and I suggest that You do...

This is perhaps the best Chinese restaurant in Coimbatore as per the local folklore.. no offence but it's far away from the Chinese cuisine that one gets for in other metros or even in other culinary capitals like Dubai etc.. it's no was close to a mainland china if ever one was to compare..

The lungfung soup was just about ok but clearly lacking the flavour, the corn syrup added for thickening stood out and masked the taste.. was very bland..

The main course of hakka noodles was no different was very dry and had too much indianized masala and the Manchurian chicken was like a typical southern dish with loads of thick gravy with excess use of sauces ... The veg stir fry with cashew nuts was also very much a similar tasting gravy with excessive use of soy sauce... Probably it's my expectation that is very high or the fact that I'm not used to this type of Indianised Chinese food taste... But seriously Coimbatore could very well afford to have a couple of more Chinese restaurants like mainland China which are standalone independent stores..

The saving grace was the service which was prompt and courteous as many people waiting did know most of their customers as they have been regulars.. ambience is fairly good and relaxed with good ventilations and light..

The costing is ok, sadly the food could do a bit more to justify the charges...

A disclaimer.. the above is as per my taste and palate could not be the same for...

சுடச்சுட Horrible experience at The Cascade Restaurant Coimbatore I am from Bengaluru. As a part of a birthday celebration, our family along with my sister's family went to this horrible hotel... Soups and starters were ordered and they were served... While serving them itself, we were not happy in the way of serving.

However, we ordered for main course also. In the mean time we were begging each and everyone to serve warm water to drink. No answers.

Then I called a boy who was carrying the water jug and asked him to serve warm water. After he filled two or three glasses only we realised he was serving normal water. Then we told him to get warm water.. No response thereafter.

Then I took one jug and went to kitchen and told them to give warm water. The manager standing inside the kitchen told me that it will be served in a minute.

Then a guy (later we came to know his name is baburam) came and served warm water. He served in one glass and asked us in Hindi that " for this one glass you came to the kitchen and you are asking us to serve".

Utter humiliation...

Then we lost our mood of having food, cancelled the main course, promptly paid the bill for what we had and came out.

I could not understand how this hotel survives in Coimbatore having these horrible guys to attend...
