š§āāļøāØ REVIEW: THE OLD POTION HOUSE ā CHENNAIāS DOOR TO A MAGICAL WORLD āØš§āāļø
So Iām literally sitting inside The Old Potion House as I write this ā and trust me, this isnāt just a meal, itās an experience straight out of a wizarding fantasy.
š Ambience & Theme
This place doesnāt just lean into the Harry Potter theme ā it lives and breathes it. From wands and spellbooks to games and themed drinks, every inch is bursting with detail and charm.
āA door to a magical world.ā Thatās the phrase that sums this place up perfectly.
Whether youāre a Potterhead or just someone who appreciates a little immersive storytelling with your meal, youāll love the vibe here. Every corner is photo-worthy, playful, and packed with detail.
š§ Food & Drinks
Letās talk about the real magic ā the food.
It. Is. Fing. Great.* No exaggeration. Every dish feels fresh, flavorful, and carefully made. The drinks are fun, full of character, and totally on-theme ā I had one that made me feel like Iād just walked out of the Three Broomsticks.
Thereās a clear passion in the presentation and taste. You donāt just eat here ā you experience it.
š Games, Fun & Interactions
The energy here is off the charts. Thereās Harry Potter trivia, a spin-the-wheel contest where you can win offers or free food, and fun tasks that keep everyone at the table engaged.
Itās not just a restaurant ā itās a mini theme park in disguise.
š§āš³ Staff & Service
The staff are absolute legends.
Theyāre patient, fun, incredibly welcoming, and they donāt just serve ā they participate in the entire magical vibe. It honestly makes the whole experience feel like you're part of something special. Every person here treated us like guests at Hogwarts, not customers.
ā Final Thoughts
If you're in Chennai and looking for something unique, The Old Potion House isn't just a recommendation ā it's a must. It's bold, itās immersive, itās fun, and it serves up some of the best food Iāve had in a while.
Iām already planning my return.
āMagic doesnāt end with the books. Sometimes, itās served on a plate with a smile.ā šŖ
Rating: 5/5 ā Would Accio myself back...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreIf you like good quality Western food. Go elsewhere. Went there with my fiancĆ© on my birthday. There is a pretty decent parking area in front of the restaurant. The restaurant has a good vibe in terms of looks ( but donāt let that look deceive you). It also has an outdoor garden area where you can eat with your loved ones. The restaurant is pretty small. Now coming to the food. If you are someone who loves a good quality Western food and had tried that elsewhere, then this restaurant is not for you. Someone who had a decent tasting Western food elsewhere, please avoid this restaurant. We ordered- Baked Oyster, Beef Tenderloin and Chicken Pizza. Baked Oysters- I understand that oyster usually tastes a bit fishy especially if u bake it, but i found oyster meat- the size of biscuit crumbles in one or two oyster shells only, the rest i couldnāt find any. Mostly these were covered in cheese and not oysters. Baked Oysters are a scam. Beef Tenderloins- The beef was made very āwell doneā, it could have been atleast made medium or medium rare. The beef was rubbery and chewy. Made the whole lunch episode unpleasant. I thought by eating the mashed potatoes and beans next to the beef tenderloin would be a consolation, but no. They were undercooked and mostly raw. The mashed potatoes were a disaster. Chicken Pizza- I ordered this because i was skeptical about ordering western items in a new restaurant that i have never tried. Wasnāt dissatisfied. The only item that helped me in this unpleasant episode was this. The pizza was cooked perfectly and tasted good. One thing i noticed while at this restaurant was that they never give water unless asked to and that too bottled drinking water ( assuming they want to increase the revenue). Another important thing to notice is that be mindful of the 5% service tax they charge. This is not mandatory by the government. If the customer refuses they cannot charge for it. We didnāt know notice that until we came home and saw the receipt. Serving is abit slow. I would rate the venue-3/5 food-1/5 service-3/5 Overall Experience- Disaster for someone who loves...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreThere was definitely a bit of magic at work here. Being a potterhead myself, I can easily say this place definitely is a work of passion, was floored the second I saw the room under the staircase. So much work has gone in getting the ambience right. Had an amazing opportunity talking to Mr. Nitin, who was telling me patiently about every little detail about the place who also strikes me as nothing less than a potterhead and definitely a man of culture. Interesting menu to choose from, will definitely not regret having butterbeer for the first time in my life and some insanely artistic inverted distilled coffee made with so much passion. Seeing a marauder's map inspired menu was just another one of the numerous things that just screamed Harry Potter. I've been to a few places all over the country which have tried to use pop culture and nostalgia as a selling point and very few of them have actually gotten it right, but for me atleast in India so far, this is as close as anyone has ever made it. Everything in the menu was to die for, the pizzas were amazing and so was the cheesecake. They've also made things interesting by allowing us to play games based on Harry Potter giving us a chance to win certain gifts. Overall, this is s must visit for any potterhead in Chennai who needs a bit of magic in their lives, just grab those butterbeers and give yourself that feeling of sitting in the shrieking shack and discussing about Dumbledore's army while listening to some nostalgic Harry Potter soundtracks in the background, really wish to see this place growing and the owner finding new innovative ideas to keep the magic as...
