After that quick Dal Puri snack, it was time to grab some lunch. There are plenty of cool & interesting places to check out in Agartala but I decided to try out one Iconic dish that I've always wanted to try & surprisingly, The Social Klub in Agartala also serves it & was just 100meters away from where I was.
The place is located in the Ground floor of Hotel Welcome Palace. It had a nice outdoor eating space which was getting prepped for the New Year festivities. I decided to eat inside & as soon as I entered I realized that this was a pretty big restaurant. It even had space for Live Performances. The interiors were also nicely done. The counter looked like you entered a bar, but I didn't see any drinks on the menu.
Anyway I took a table & without looking at the menu, I ordered a plate of Chelo Kebab. Chelo or Chelow Kebab is the national dish of Iran. It was brought to India by the owner of Peter Cat Restaurant in Kolkata in the 70s. But the odds of finding this in Agartala? Simply amazes me.
In Iran it's basically Kebabs served with buttered rice & raw eggs. My order came after 20mins. It had 4 types of Chicken Kebabs- Seekh, Achari, Reshmi & Malai tikka kebabs served with a veg pulao that had a Sunny side up on top & a serving of grilled veggies.
The kebabs were cooked really well & flavorful & the quantity was generous. All had different textures & taste. The grilled veggies gave the dish some crunch. The sunny side up was done perfectly. The rice though was trying a little too hard. It felt like it was competing with the kebabs instead of supporting their flavors. I feel that a simple saffron rice would have done the job much better. Anyway that's just me.
Service was top notch. My fone was running out of battery & they went out of their way to find a charger for me. Much appreciated.

Read moreThey treat elders , families and Teenagers completely different. They give the best utmost service to the families and elders but when it comes to a group of teenagers they treat us like we will go out without paying our food. First wait for half an hour in waiting list and then when u finally sit in the table they gon take extra 1 hour just to take your order because they are busy asking other customers "how's the food". And they also treat us in very bad ways, we felt embarassing here.
2 months ago I came in this restaurant with my family and cousin and they treated us so good that this restaurant became my favourite that's why me and my friends decided to dine in Social Klub because I loved their service. But after the horrible treatment and "partiality" between teenagers and other customers. I am never coming in this restaurant with my friends ever again..
The food is good. The environment is best. If you are not a teenager and you are an adult or a family then this restaurant will offer u the best service. But because of the partiality I am giving 1 star to this restaurant.
This message is for someone from the restaurant who might see my review-
If me and my friends are paying equally for the food that others are paying then why do u have to show such partiality? It's not like we are paying any less infact we paid more than the actual bill and didn't got the change.
This type of partiality is very bad because I future it will be people like us who will be coming to ur restaurant and if u treat them this bad then nobody will ever come to social Klub.
Hope u guys fix this major problem in ur servicing. Food is really...
Read moreI came to know about this place from some of my friends so I thought to go and explore myself. I would like to note down my experience.
Food: We ordered the chicken kebab, mutton kosha, Rogan Josh, and two other veg dishes, 2 plain rice bowl, and 1 veg pulao. The veg pulao tasted good, along with the veg dishes. The kebab aslo tasted relatively good. But the mutton kosha and Rogan Josh were bland in taste. What I meant to say it it lacked the basic taste of salt and spice. Let alone other spicy taste you would expect from a mutton kosha and Rogan Josh, it was entirely missing. No amount of extra salt and pepper added to the dishes while eating was enough to revive the taste. These were plain as...I don't know what to compare them to even.
Service: As I mentioned what we ordered above, they brought in the dishes in time but they missed one bowl of plain rice, as we ordered two bowls, they delivered only one. After that we had to put up repetitive request for the rice bowl before it was delivered.
Ambience: It was one of the most chaotic restaurant in Agartala. One of our friends was feeling sick, so he requested one of the attendents to lower the volume of the televisions that were blasting songs and all, but they failed to do so, as they didn't take any step about it. The restaurant was chaotic enough to not let you eat in peace, the peace we experienced in other restaurants in the city.
So that was my honest take...
