My second visit to Kasturi. The atmosphere was not very well coming due to the presence of an odd smell. Later I discovered that the odd smell is from their table mats. It smells awful. So that so much they sprayed room freshener.
Coming to the more interesting parts of the food. But I cannot overlook how misplaced their aesthetics are. If you look through my attached photos you can better understand my judgement.
Aesthetics
No point in serving a big 'Kashar' rice plate with a gondhoraj starter that comes in kit kat sizes. It's a waste of space. Instead serve in food specific sized china plates. Except for the heavy pates & glass nothing is in Bengali taste The table mats should be replaced with something else that doesn't smell after cleaning The table corners are not made child friendly or friendly at all. The table pointy corners should be replaced immediately The extra plate is of the same size that of a God mini thalis for nakuldana. I mean what appeasement does you gather by serving in those okates that are hard to hold when filled to the brimm. Your fingers touching the food itself.
The chicken and mutton curry has such little gravy with it that we practically thought we might need to reeducate ourselves before eating in Kasturi. I don't know what they are trying to achieve here?
Ghondhoran chicken coating was a bit soft , a bit crispier would have reached that taste expectancy. Considered this one a waste. Waiting for rice, chicken, mutton also tuned into a low baller. Gondhoraj was the starter, was served cold by the way.
The only thing good was the fish fry. Excellent. Again their lack of customer experience shows. Tons of mustard but no salad to go with fish fry.
They should really consider a design and aesthetics consultant to improve the user experience. The food is still good but with such bad aesthetics and overall poor experience although good behavior from staff, no problems to ask for extra.
P.S. Reach out to my email if you need consulting on how to improve your customer dining experience. Right now it's pathetic....
Read moreI've never been to Kasturi before, because I belive big brands serving authentic food is just a marketing gimmick and they never focus on quality of food. They just want to take as much money as possible from your pocket in the name of authentic cuisine.
When I visited for the first time, I found I was absolutely right. The ambiance wasn't really good, but they did serve food on Kolapata and Kashar Plate.
Bengali Fish Fry @ Rs.145 (3/5) Size of the Fish Fry was small but it was fat. Fillet were really good, fish felt fresh. It tasted okay but I've tried much better fish fry before. Kasundi was quite rich in taste, seemed like home made not the bootled once.
Dhakai Dum Pulao @ Rs.155 (1/5) They call it Dhakai Dum Pulao with Golden Fried Onions, uff so sophisticated name just to make you fool. I call it Laung Rice. In every bite I found 7-8 cloves and 2-3 whole black peppers that made the rice almost inedible. The chef really needs to learn how to cook rice. I've tried Dhakai Pulao before and it was the worst of all.
Chicken Dal Bunglow @ Rs.240 (1/5) For Rs.240 + tax only 3 pieces of chicken that were also undercooked. Chicken didn't took the flavour of gravy seemed like steam chicken put later on. Moreover it tasted just like Chicken kasha and let me tell you there are far better chicken kasha you can expect at any pice hotel.
Although I don't know much about Dhakai cuisine still I can say they perfectly ruined this Dhakai delicacy. Can't believe it's their speciality. If their speciality taste like this, I can't even imagine their other dishes.
Conclusion Unfortunately it was my birthday and I let them ruin it. Just go to any good Pice hotel if you really want to have Authentic Bengali dishes. They'll charge you way less and you'll actually be enjoying true taste. Kasturi is just fooling people and making money,...
Read moreDisappointed of their horrible service.
This place is not worthy when you have any Bengali occasions going around the city . They take orders , accept payments but find it hard to deliver. Jamai sasthi, Bengali new year, rakhi, bhaiphota ....such occasions mark the need for authentic Bengali cuisine. But they can't handle that pressure. The take away delivery boy was waiting outside the counter for 1.5 hours and after repeated requests they rejected the customer's call and said even another hour will be delayed. The order was placed around 12pm but till 3 pm nothing was in progress. The lunch hour literally passed by and they disconnected the customer calls or sometimes just paid no heed to their calls . People order due to some reason. But if this branch is incapable of handling such pressure I would suggest either reject the orders or make yourself worthy of handling such situations in the near future . To serve restaurant people , if your service neglects the take away customers who placed their orders long before and you don't even dare to pick the calls up then such restaurants should pack your bags and get lost and give some other authentic restaurants a chance to show their capabilities. I hope both the customers are important to you. If your service is only for restaurant then stop your take away services at once . Failed to deliver services on such occasions is even more horrible attempt. It's a loss for both the service boys as well as the customers waiting in their house for the service. None is getting anything free from you . So next time serve your customers properly. Service should be given according to the order placed . Who comes first gets their service . Next time such thing happens your restaurant might be at risk to survive in this location. Horrible...
