I was wondering why this place is rated so low but after visiting today I found the answer myself.
This place is located inside the Fairfield Marriott on the L1 floor.
I visited for Sunday brunch and it cost đ´2000+ and according to me this price does not justify the food at all.
The highlight of this place is their staff.
They are highly dedicated, well mannered, trained, customer friendly, efficient, quick, and anything positive you can say.
The moment I entered KAVA one of their staffs accompanied me to my seat, made me feel comfortable, served water and complimentary drinks and gave a brief idea of the foods to be served in the buffet.
The entire time one of them was always available.
They have a good amount of items in Salad but most of them are tasteless and no one was having those. Whoever was taking those salads no one repeated or finished completely I think, at least what I saw. Though double melon was so so.
They have very very very limited options in starters specially non veg starters. They have only 3 items in non veg starters two chicken item : chicken dry Manchurian and chicken kabab and one fish item : fish fry.
Chicken kabab was not at all good, not tnender at all. Chicken Manchurian was not bad.
Fish fry was tasteless. Coating was not good and inside fish was blunt.
Veg starter had pasta, aloo dish, sabzi fry, corn dish, noodles, and some other items.
Noodles was good but not very tasty. Corn dish and fried veggies were tasteless. Aloo was not made well. Pasta was okaish.
They have limited options in non veg mains also. Two fish items, one chicken item, one mutton dish and chicken biryani.
Chicken biryani was not flavourful. It was normal chicken biryani but definitely something good can be expected from Marriott.
Mutton was the biggest disappointment. I am big time mutton lover but the mutton disappointed me the most. Mutton was not cooked well, not tender, it was hard and the gravy was not soaked inside properly.
Chicken mains was acceptable. I do not have fish so cannot comment on that.
I requested for butter nun and again thanks to their staffs nun was delivered so quickly.
The butter nun was good and soft.
Paneer mains was good.
Soup was good.
They serve some other items also in veg mains but did not try them.
They have 3 live counters : puchka, chaat and continental.
Chaat was good and they served it nice.
Continental was average but better than the mains items.
They have quite a number of items in the dessert section : kala jamun, Mishti Dahi, Balusai, Sandesh, tart, Mouse, cheese cake, many types of pastries and some other items in dessert.
Mishti Dahi was good but not the kala Jamun.
Cheesecake was the worst . Pastries were good . Sandesh was bakwaas . And other dessert items were also not very good. Some were good and some were average.
They had live music today and it made the whole time very pleasant and soothing.
The checkout process was good.
The Sunday brunch cost 2005 with tax but the whole experience and mostly the food do not...
Read moreI went to visit the restaurant by an invitation and the restaurant is on the lobby 1 inside the Marriott Kolkata. What I experienced Ambience / Setup: Spacious dining area with modern dĂŠcor, large windows, good lighting. Comfortable seating. Some tables are close, so occasional privacy/sound overlap depending on crowd. The view is a benefit: you can see the Biswa Bangla Gate from some windows. Food & Menu Kava offers a mixture of buffet options and a la carte. Vegetarian + nonâvegetarian spread. Starters, mains, desserts. Strengths: desserts are very goodâvariety, taste, presentation. Biryani also gets praise from many. Weaknesses: nonâveg starters/mains sometimes underwhelming. Some items are not tender enough; some sauces or seasoning could be better in terms of flavour intensity. Service & Staff The service is courteous, attentive, staff are generally helpful. During busy times (buffets, weekends) refill of popular items may lag behind, and some items run out before replenishment. Value / Price It is on the higher side, especially for buffets or dinners. Expect a substantial bill. Good value if you focus on what they do well: desserts, ambiance, service. If your main priority is variety and nonâveg mains, you might feel price vs reward is a bit off. Overall Impression Kava is a solid choice for a pleasant dining experience in New Town â especially if you are looking for a relaxed ambience, good dessert offerings, attentive service, and donât mind spending a bit more. For buffets, it delivers well in many departments, though occasionally lagging in variety of nonâveg and in keeping things hot / replenished. For casual a la carte meals, or for fulfilling a sweet craving, it scores even higher. Last but not the least I enjoyed here live foods counter by speciality chefs and they made exactly what I wanted...
Read moreMy recent visit to Kava Restaurant at Fairfield by Marriott Kolkata left me with mixed feelings. The restaurant has its strengths but also several areas that could use improvement.
The selection of items on the menu was somewhat disappointing. The number of items available did not meet my expectations for a restaurant of this caliber. The starters, in particular, were not up to the mark, lacking the flavor and freshness one would hope for. The biryani was decent, but nothing to write home about.
The highlight of the meal was undoubtedly the dessert collection. Kava offers a great variety of delicious desserts that are sure to satisfy anyone with a sweet tooth. This is the main attraction of the restaurant, making it a good choice for those looking for a sweet finish to their meal.
On a positive note, the ambiance of Kava is pleasant and comfortable, making it a good spot for brunch or dinner. The service was courteous and prompt, adding to the overall dining experience.
While Kava excels in its dessert offerings, it falls short in other areas, particularly in the variety and quality of its starters and main courses. If youâre a dessert lover, youâll find a lot to enjoy here. However, for a more well-rounded dining experience, you might want to explore...
