Read moreKeventers in Darjeeling is an outstanding restaurant that provides a memorable dining experience. The warm and welcoming staff provided excellent service from the moment I walked in, eager to assist me with my order. The restaurant's ambiance is cozy, with comfortable seating, tasteful decor, and a magnificent view of Kanchenjunga on one side and the clock tower from the movie "Barfi" on the other.
The breakfast menu offers a great selection of items, with the meat platters being the highlight of my visit. The chicken and pork platters were particularly delicious, and even those looking for a lighter meal would be satisfied with options like the bacon burger or salami sandwich. The shakes are also quite good, with a small but interesting range of flavors to choose from.
One dish that I would recommend avoiding is the cheese omelette, which is also quite renowned. I found it not up to the mark as I have had better omelettes before. However, when combined with the sausages, it works well.
The hot chocolate is a must-try and pairs perfectly with the breakfast menu. Children will love the variety of shakes available, and even those who are not big fans of milkshakes will appreciate the tasty soft serve ice cream.
Despite the long waiting queue, the ambiance is a perfect 10/10, and the pocket pinch for four people is reasonable at ₹1200-₹1600 depending on how heavy a breakfast you would like to have. Additionally, the restaurant is conveniently located near many of Darjeeling's popular tourist spots, making it an excellent choice for a quick breakfast before heading out for the day.
In summary, Keventers is an outstanding restaurant that offers excellent food, friendly service, and breathtaking views. While the cheese omelette may not be up to everyone's standards, it is still worth trying, especially when paired with the sausages. Do not miss out on the opportunity to enjoy the vivid background scenery of the mountain ranges while savoring every bite of your meal or licking a softy cone. Keventers is a must-visit for anyone traveling...
Read moreKeventer’s is one of those places in Darjeeling that you simply have to visit at least once. Standing on Nehru Road since the early 1900s, it has a history that goes back to the colonial era. Originally started by Edward Keventer, the famous dairy specialist, it became a landmark in Darjeeling over time. Even today, people know Keventer’s as much for its legacy as for its food. Sitting on that iconic balcony and sipping a hot chocolate or coffee with the view of the Mall Road and, on a clear day, Kanchenjunga in the distance — that’s an experience money can’t buy.
The food here is classic and hearty. Keventer’s is especially famous for its breakfast platters, sausages, ham, bacon, and fried eggs served sizzling hot. The meat is well-prepared and filling, making it the perfect way to start a chilly Darjeeling morning. Their hot chocolate is thick and creamy, one of the best you will find in town, and the sandwiches are simple but tasty. If you are a meat lover, this is the place you’ll enjoy the most.
Now, the flip side. While the food and the heritage are amazing, the service doesn’t quite match up. The waiter who attended to us wasn’t very friendly, and at times it felt like he was doing us a favor by taking the order. A place like Keventer’s, with such a reputation, should have warmer hospitality. That’s the only reason I cannot give it a full five stars.
Still, Keventer’s is more than just a restaurant. It’s a piece of Darjeeling’s history, a place where generations of travelers have sat, talked, and soaked in the vibe of the hills. Despite the rough edges in service, I’d recommend it to anyone visiting Darjeeling. Go there for the food, the view, and the experience of being part of...
