The food was quite delicious. But the quantity for their pricing is very less. Their sushis are very small in size. I have had sushi in other places and these were very tiny compared to other places. Even the main course garlic rice and vegetable ramen were very less in quantity for the price. Service was mixed. They do have 1 or 2 dishes in each category for vegetarians and the waitress did help us with choosing the dishes. But they don't serve regular water or warm water. Only warm green tea which we were not very fond of having. They said they can give us bottled water only. They also refused to help serve the main dishes in our plates. We had to help ourselves. The waitress was also reluctant when I asked her to help me learn to use the chopsticks. Overall we had a mixed experience with this restaurant.

This was my first visit to Chennai in 2.5 years due to COVID19. My friend suggested Oyama for dinner. I kept my expectation very low since I could not imagine having good Japanese food in Chennai, but to my big surprise everything about the dinner experience was very good. The restaurant is located it seemed in a residential area, not so much in downtown Chennai or anywhere where it was busy. My friend told me that the owner is Japanese and Oyama just recently opened. We had a private room and three in our party. We ordered a variety of dishes; apetizers, sashimi, sushi, yakitori, etc. All were very nice. Service was also very good. I would think that Oyama just might be one of the best Japanese restaurants in Chennai. I would definitely like to visit Oyama again when I visit Chennai next time.

Had gone with my family for lunch. We started with Miso soup which was exactly how I remember it tasted in Tokyo during my stay there. The Cheese Fry was lovely and felt like it was made fresh, quite unlike the standard frozen mozzarella cheese sticks one finds in the multi cuisine restaurants in Chennai. We also had Buta Shoga Yaki (a form of grilled pork), Beef Katsu Don (beef cutlets in sticky rice) and Gyu Niku Udon (Grilled beef in soupy Udon noodles broth). All of these were exceptionally tasty! We ended with Matcha pudding which was the only thing that I'd rate as average, and I'd solely attribute that to matcha being an acquired taste, which I've not acquired. šŸ™‚ Overall a wonderful experience!

After reading all the great reviews I went with my parents to this place to celebrate Father’s Day… honesty I had a lot of expectations from this place…to begin with the place does not have a lift so if you are going with senior citizens then this will be a challenge… we reached the place at 9 pm and we were forced into ordering food with in 10 mins… the staff were rude and even when asked about the dishes they could not answer or they were not ready to answer… now comes the the point where we ask about portion sizes and this also they would not recommend… then we ended up ordering and to my surprise they do not have any desert and there was only one soup option which for a Japanese place is a shame… food for 3 people was 3,900 and they also add service taxes of about 10 percent which if you don’t want to pay you will have to tell the waiter about while this printed on the bill how many of us will really read the fine print in the bill? …last but not the least these people sell Aquafina bottles which is MRP 20 at 50… I know many may say so what… for those let me tell you that this is illegal… over all I may never go back again… food wise the place is decent but the people and their attitude spoilt the over all experience …no one goes to a speciality restaurant only for food these days right? If you are looking for Japanese restaurants in Chennai I would suggest going to Nippon or Kuuraku or Tappan if. not all this just visit Leela as a last...

When you think of a Japanese restaurant the first thing that comes to mind is hospitality. Oyama staff fails to provide that. Extremely rude receptionist: when asked for booking he responded that they don't accept it and was inconclusive about the wait time. When we reached there they made us wait. After 20 minutes they led us to our table and we could clearly see it the restaurant wasn't full. Perhaps they wanted to create the hype and made us wait(?) On top of that they asked for our phone number when we paid the bill and were about to leave. 2 minutes after leaving the restaurant they called us unnecessarily and said "we are just checking the number". I read through the lowest rated reviews of this restaurant and found the same issue reported by multiple customers about the service and staff behavior. Honestly, would not recommend going there. There are better Japanese restaurants in Chennai who have warm and welcoming staff members. Never visiting again. Food...

I have been to this place twice in this month.

It's nestled in a quiet neighbourhood in Gandhi Nagar. The food is bang on. Very tasty! They have tried to bring in a little bit of culture by providing floor seating for the interested. There are regular table and chairs too for the ones who can't or don't want to sit low.

Service can be improved to a great extent. We ordered a Mango juice yesterday and the lady who brought it said Mango juice and kept it at the edge of the table and went. She didn't even bother to place it respectfully at the place where we were seated. Nor did she even look at us... That was very rude and put of... She was probably senior to the other girls. The junior staff were still sweet and polite.

This experience was very bad.

Coming to the cost, this place is very expensive, I would rate it more expensive than Teppan. Ambience wise it didn't do justice to the cost. The only reason one can go back is food. Not a complete...
