Used to live nearby in Egmore for close to 30 years. Abids opened after 2015 or so and have tried food there . great food btw. In 2016 moved to tambaram. Used to see great reviews about Haleem during Ramzan time at Abids. Have tried the Haleem at fisherman's fare near Don Bosco school when I was in Egmore and felt it was good. After seeing lots of positive reviews about Haleem each year and wanted to try this sometime . Got a chance few days back and drove 25km from Tambaram on a weekday to Abids. Got 350g Haleem for Rs.292+taxes . Thought I'll taste once I reach home but halfway couldn't avoid myself and parked the car at one spot and tasted the Haleem. Should say Abids haleem is easily the best when compared to fisherman's fare . Liked the texture with nil irritants and generous amount of ghee and fried cashews. Got done in a jiffy. Waiting for another chance before Ramzan.
Update - Sep 30,2025 Went with my wife and 7 year old son for lunch . Ordered Mutton Biryani , Chicken Tikka , Green salad, Jeera rice , Dal Tadka and the star of the day - Mutton Haleem . My son had never tasted Haleem before and he wanted to taste a bit from the small portion I ordered and that's it, he devoured it totally and loved and told , 'Dad get a takeaway of bigger portion and I'll eat at home for dinner' . As always Abids didn't disappoint and portion sizes were really good . My wife wanted some dessert for her sweet craving and I took a takeaway of Kunafa. She loved it totally . Total bill came to Rs 2474 I'll probably have more visits here if not for the...
Read moreI would like to start with the best part. The best is the service here , the person who attended our table was super fast he brought everything in no time and cleaned our table as soon as we finished our dishes. The price was little high compared to other hotels but nothing different in the taste. It would have been better if they could have given 2 pita bread with Shawarma plate. The soup was good it had lot of garlic flavour. we actually ordered for tawa fish but due to its unavailability we were suggested with masala fried fish , the fish was soft tender and it was bone less there were 4 pieces but the cost was too high for such a less quantity of the quantity is increased for the price it would have been better. Crispy fried chicken was good , not oily, it was dry and very crispy a good snack, couldn't get pics of it though. Coming to the briyani part they said it was authentic Hyderabad dum briyani but it was not, though the texture and look seems to be Hyderabadi briyani but the taste is normal, the rice quantity was less but there were lot of chicken pieces in them. Coming to the dessert part , very few restaurants serve caramel custard and ande ka metha (egg sweet). Both were good taste and texture wise I like the dessert it was worth the money we paid for it and finally completed our lunch with lemon mint cooler. I would try it again if the prices are revised as I feel it is bit costly compared to other competitive restaurants. Ambience is good , got ample...
Read moreIt was a small family get-together and we decided to have lunch here at Abid's. We booked a table for 3 families at around 11:30 am over the phone. We reached there around 1:00 PM, the table was kept ready for us and they also ensured it was a bit away from the other tables to maintain our privacy, which we liked very much.
Now let us get into the main topic menu.
They provided a lime juice (welcome drink) which set the stage on 🔥. We browsed the menu and indeed felt the price was a bit on the higher side.
We ordered some soups, peri peri barbeque chicken, tandoori chicken, and a few more, the top attraction was 1 meter mutton kabab. Check out the 1 meter kabab video included.
Peri peri barbeque was excellently spicy and we could not stop with one piece. Prawn 🍤 golden fry was next ecstasy. In total all starters were excellent.
Into the main course, we ordered mutton biriyani and curd rice. Be cautious when selecting the biriyani portion. The biriyani was good but it was of different taste with rich elachi and species.
Now the last but the KING on the menu Haleem. It was the first time we had Haleem but most of us liked it very much. This is also a food/sweet made of rich minced mutton with cashew, saffron, dry raisins.
Service was too good. Do visit the place before 12:30 pm or book before visiting for lunch.
Visit for happy tummy 😂☺️
Price when compared to quantity & quantity, the price was actually on par with other...
