UPDATE (in response to the owner’s reply): I want to clarify a few things since the business has tried to shift the blame as expected. Yes, we arrived late. And yes, the restaurant had the right to deny us a table — we never disputed that. Had the restaurant not called us at 10:39 AM, we would’ve arrived at our original 12 PM booking time. We only delayed our visit because we didn’t know if the reservation still stood. One of us did express frustration and said, “your customer service sucks.” That does not justify public humiliation, verbal aggression, and personal attacks. We had a confirmed reservation. This isn’t about not getting a seat. It’s about how your staff treats people — especially young women — with entitlement, defensiveness, and zero accountability. As part of a prominent group like Geetham, you are expected to operate with professionalism. You failed on every front. If you truly had values — and cared about your guests — you would be the one picking up the phone to call us and make things right. Not post a sanitized response to save face while subtly blaming the customer. ...................... Rude, discriminatory, and completely unprofessional — shocking behavior from a Geetham Group restaurant I had a terrible experience at The Greenhouse Barbeque, T. Nagar (Chennai) — made worse by the fact that it’s part of the renowned Geetham Group. One would expect a basic level of professionalism and courtesy from such an established brand. What I experienced was the exact opposite. I made a confirmed lunch booking for two through the District app for 12 PM on a Saturday. On the morning of our visit, I got a call from the restaurant at 10:39 AM, which I missed. I called back within five minutes — no answer. I continued calling multiple times and even sent a WhatsApp message — still, no response. Not knowing why they had called, my friend and I decided to go there around 1:15 PM. When I asked the manager why they called in the first place, he casually said it was for “booking confirmation.” But how do you confirm a booking if you never return a customer’s call? I was the one calling them repeatedly, and they didn’t even have the basic decency to respond or call back. And then, things escalated. We were met with rudeness, arrogance, and open disrespect. The manager and two staff members spoke down to us, acted like we were doing something wrong by arriving “late” (despite the unclear communication), and said they were “fully booked.” This, while multiple tables were visibly empty. When I asked if we could wait for the 2 PM slot, we were brushed off again. One staff member even scoffed, “Why should we give you a table if you’re just going to order two coffees?” — as if we were freeloaders. For the record, we had come for lunch. And even if we hadn’t, no guest deserves to be spoken to that way. When I calmly explained and showed them my call logs, the manager responded with a cold, insincere “sorry.” No responsibility. No solution. Just more attitude. And then — the manager raised his voice at me. Loud enough for other diners to notice. Instead of de-escalating, he made it worse by saying “Just get out” and literally showed us the door, folding his hands like he was doing us a favor. He even remarked, “We don’t like the way Gen Z speaks.” It was beyond clear: We were treated this way because we were two young women. Had we been two men or older guests, I’m certain we would’ve been treated with far more basic respect. This place doesn’t just have bad service — it has a deep-rooted bias and entitlement problem. They don’t know how to speak to women, they don’t understand hospitality, and they don’t seem to care about accountability. Just because The Greenhouse Barbeque is run by a big name like Geetham Group doesn’t give them the right to treat paying customers like they’re a nuisance. This experience was humiliating, aggressive, and deeply disappointing. I will never return — and I strongly advise others, especially women and young diners, to think twice before stepping into this place.

**Restaurant Review: Greenhouse Barbecue** I recently had the pleasure of dining at the newly opened Greenhouse Barbecue on Valmiki Street, and it was an experience worth sharing. From the moment I stepped inside, I was greeted by a warm and inviting ambiance, characterized by expansive seating and captivating wall art that adds to the restaurant's charm. The spread of dishes at Greenhouse Barbecue is impressive, and each plate stands out with its own flavor profile. To start, the barbequed pineapple and paneer were nothing short of spectacular—each bite bursting with a smoky sweetness and spice that left a lasting impression. The zucchini fritter starters were equally delightful, sparking excitement in my taste buds and signaling the promise of a fantastic meal ahead. One of the highlights was the chat counter, where I indulged in a variety of authentic chaats. The perfect blend of spices and zing made these dishes an experience in themselves, offering a true taste of street food in a refined setting. Moving on to the main course, I was treated to one of the best garlic naans I've ever had. It was soft and truly melted in my mouth—a testament to the chef's skill. The subjis were tasty as well, but the ulli theeyal stood out most for me; it was absolutely delicious and packed with flavor. When it came to desserts, Greenhouse Barbecue truly exceeded my expectations. The selection was extensive, and I was particularly impressed with the blueberry halwa, a unique twist that I had never tasted before. The cold stone ice cream was delightful, and the classic rasmalai was just perfect , stealing my heart with its richness and the right amount of sweetness. The service at Greenhouse Barbecue deserves a special mention. The staff are not only friendly but also exceedingly accommodating, willing to adjust spice levels to suit individual preferences. This personal touch truly enhances the dining experience. Overall, my visit to Greenhouse Barbecue was nothing short of fantastic. With its amazing food, excellent service, and inviting ambiance, I would highly recommend this restaurant to anyone looking to indulge in delectable dishes. It easily earns five stars from me on all parameters—a must-try gem!

Barbecues are usually associated with meat. But trust Chennai to turn things around. What prevents chefs from grilling watermelon and pineapple pieces on skewers? Or cauliflower for that matter? The Thali mentality of having several dishes at the same meal rules. We have no problem with soup followed by starters and then wandering away into sushi (vegetarian, of course) as well as pani puri and bhel puri at the same meal. A pasta dish? Served at the 'live' counter. Side by side with Podi dosas made fresh and crisp. The procession begins soon after you land up. The week we went it was crispy corn, followed by a beetroot cutlet. Then came potatoes coated with cheese. And then, the barbecue arrived. Skewers with two kinds of paneer dishes, one with mushroom and of course, watermelon and mushroom. You could see that it was popular. On a Sunday evening by 7.30, most tables were full, and the action continued in the range of dishes that one could dip in later. A Lucknowi biriyani shoulder to shoulder with schezwan noodles - and veg manchurian balls swimming in a soy gravy. The finale was a range of desserts that had everything from blueberry cheesecake to payasam to jalebis and kunafa. Our palate likes to mix things up, whether it's South or North Indian, Middle Eastern or Western. There was a pan shot at the end but wiser counsel prevailed. Greenhouse Barbecue is an experience you can have only in India. We don't just embrace diverse cuisines; we give it our own Indian touch. Like seasoning, we wrap the familiar in the unfamiliar. Much like the sushi chef, who was wrapping rice and the stuffing and telling you what it contains. Then adding dollops of some mysterious sauces from tubes and cutting it expertly into a plate. The price for all of this - a little over Rs.1000, inclusive of taxes. We have a term that is peculiarly Indian - Paisa Vasool. Which means you get more than your money's worth. That's the operating principle here

Heartbroken by the Experience at Green House BBQ, T. Nagar – A Loyal Customer Treated with Disrespect

It pains me to write this, but my recent visit to Green House BBQ, T. Nagar was one of the most disappointing and humiliating experiences I’ve had as a loyal customer.

I’ve been dining at Green House BBQ for over two years, especially at the Purasaiwakkam branch, which has always felt like home. The food, the warmth, the service — everything there was flawless. I truly miss that branch and the amazing hospitality it offered.

This time, I booked a table at the T. Nagar branch one week in advance, clearly stating over the call that I was coming with elderly family members and needed a table near the counter. Manager Maya assured me it was noted. But even during the call, she said we must vacate by 1:30 PM, which felt a little off — like we were being warned rather than welcomed.

Unfortunately, things only got worse in person. Maya was not only rude, dismissive, and cold, but made it blatantly clear that our presence was an inconvenience. She refused to honor our table request, gave us attitude, and told us bluntly, “You’ll sit where I tell you to.” Her behavior was unprofessional and completely lacking in basic human decency.

To add insult to injury, we were handed the bill midway through our meal, without a word — as if we were being asked to leave. It felt degrading and left us feeling disrespected and pushed out.

We calmly raised our concerns with both Maya and the senior staff — but instead of owning up or even listening empathetically, they dismissed our concerns outright. No apology. No accountability. Just plain arrogance.

That said, I must deeply appreciate Kesavan and Ganesh — the chefs who originally served us at the Purasaiwakkam branch and are now here. They are the only saving grace of this visit. Both of them were humble, kind, and truly listened to our concerns. They ensured we felt heard and taken care of. We’ve known them since our days at the Purasaiwakkam outlet, and they have consistently delivered not just great food, but real hospitality. Kudos to them — they are doing their best despite poor management.

Restaurant Review: Greenhouse Barbecue

I recently had the pleasure of dining at the newly opened Greenhouse Barbecue on Valmiki Street, and it was an experience worth sharing.

It easily earns five stars from me on all parameters—a...
