THE BRAGA ART CAFE would be at home in Soho, Greenwich Village, Hampstead or Boston. Decor is interesting in a good way; lots of wood and greenery. You won’t get bored here sitting on your own just looking at the ornaments - but it’s spacious and uncluttered rather than an antique shop with nothing on sale. The ambience is warm, brown light, but you can see what you’re doing. It’s not an out of the street and into a cave; they’ve got it just right. Staff are smart, attentive and will be pleased to speak English, and get you a cab (or a passenger motorcycle) gladly.
Let’s eat first. There’s Indonesian traditional Joglo Noodle Soup, Tahu Telor, the ubiquitous Sop, Nasi Goreng, and Dori Sambal. Then they’ve also borrowed from The West so, in the same section of the menu, you’ll find a Beef Rendang Burger. Then for the visiting food prudes, they can opt for fish and chips, schnitzel, penne carbo, or a ‘tenderloin’ steak complete with veg and wedges or mash. That’s the most expensive thing on the menu, rolling in at Rp68,000, so about GB£7 and under US$10.
DRINKIES? More coffee choice than I can be bothered writing about but I think the Oreo Cappuccino must be worth a go if that’s your bag (Rp26K). And crème brûlée coffee? You know you do...
Beer. Bottled. Cold. Supplied with glass right out the freezer. 620ml (large) Bintang — a passable Pilsner — is Rp35K. There are other brands but when it’s served this cold, it won’t matter much. Cocktails. All the classics are here but they start to get expensive: a mojito will send you just north of Rp100,000 but, hell, that’s still only a fiver. Then there’s stuff called Sisha. Anything that comes served by the pipette... well, your reviewer still has at least a modicum of sense. I’ll ask on your behalf...
I don’t know, but I reckon this place will get a bit loud and jumpy after about 9pm and it’s open til 2am weekends.
° 7-Eleven next door for smokes and supplies ° Easy to get transport home ° Other restaurants...
Read moreWent here for brunch. The place is at the center of braga street, intriguing from the front. Looked like it had a traditional indonesian vibe, didn’t expect much at first.
I ordered nasi goreng and some sort of like beef schnitzel. When the food came, pne reaction: woah!
So yeah, as i mentioned before i was wrong abt being sus bout the food cuuz when it came, the nasi goreng plate wasnt on a plate, it was like a place where you put decorations on your coffee table. It was huuuge, the portion was huge too for both dishes.
-nasi goreng sunda (i think) The nasi goreng came with a sunny side up, 3 chicken satay with peanut seasoning, kerupuk udang (cracker), pickled condiments. The nasi goreng was delicious but it was kinda spicy for me (maybe you could ask for less spicy or not spicy at all, if you dont like spicy food)
-beef schnitzel Sorry but i forgot the name on the menu, i think it was steak londo or something. Taste wise, its nice, the beef was whacked till its super thin. The baby potatoes were sooo good🫶🏻 it came with a side of salad
Overall, I enjoyed eating there. Would come back again hehe. Gave 4 stars cause there were mosquitoes that bit me...
Read moreWe had the most bad service and experience at this restaurant. Won't ever be back. Invited some friends over for dinner. Placed out orders, but the male waiter just got it wrong on his ordering phone. We repeated 3 times. Each time, he would miss out something. As we expected, indeed 1 of 2 fish and chips was not served. We informed the same waiter about it. He mentioned the food would be served shortly and was still processing. What we saw was he walked to the counter, probably to place the forgotten order. We waited further until everyone else at our table finished the food. I approached another man in long hair or maybe woman. He then asked the same waiter about it and walked away. He did not update me at all. After a while, we asked the same waiter again. He again said the food was still processing. We didn't want to wait a total of 30 mins or more for the missing food, paid up. No apologies from the lady man at all. Anyway, the food was super salty. Service...
