The upfront note this restaurant is a non halal offering, so those seeking halal options should consider other establishments. Now, let's talk about the broth, the very soul of any respectable shabu shabu. Here, it achieved a near perfect equilibrium. The savoriness was present, impactful even, yet it refrained from overpowering the palate. A foundational warmth, undeniably satisfying. Moving to the components, the pork meatballs demanded attention. The texture was a delightful interplay of springiness giving way to a tender interior. The pork flavor itself was genuine, not aggressive but providing a distinct and interesting layer of taste. The dumplings also impressed. The filling was substantial, delivering a pleasing savory punch. The wrapper, commendable in its construction, possessed the structural integrity to contain the filling without being excessively thick or doughy. Overall, the shabu shabu experience at Fairy Garden Mangga Besar proved quite gratifying. The well balanced broth, the expertly crafted pork meatballs and dumplings, alongside the evident freshness of the other ingredients, coalesced to create a dish that was both comforting and genuinely satisfying. For enthusiasts of non halal shabu shabu, this spot warrants a visit.

This review encapsulates the essence of Fairy Garden through four photos, illustrating its comforting, delicious, and culturally rich food. Despite its name, Fairy Garden is not themed after fairies or gardens, but rather stands as a renowned establishment along the Mangga Besar road, witnessing decades of change and evolution in the area. Inside, its iconic interior features several large round tables and gas pipes extending to each table. During our visit, we indulged in their signature OG plain soup with roast pork and tofu, accompanied by a variety of delectable additions including pork meatballs, shrimp meatballs, pork shrimp wontons, and flat fish cakes. The fried shrimp balls with croutons are a standout dish unique to the restaurant. The overall dining experience at Fairy Garden feels like dining with family, offering comforting meals that are not only delicious but also promote good chi and health, making it a frequent choice for return visits.

I have been to this Chinese resto for almost thirty years, because my family like the hot pot in this place. The chicken soup was served with cabbage, tofu and also roasted pork belly which made the soup so tasty. But the last time I tried the hot pot, the tastes of the soup was not as good as before, maybe ten years ago...because they reduce the roasted pork belly and the chili was a little bit different..not as tasty as before. Anyway, it's a good place for family gathering to try healthy hot pot..and the service was great.
