Saigon Cafe Kuningan, Jakarta June 2018
Chao Tom Banh Hoo or grilled shrimp paste for 140 K IDR ++. Minced shrimp mixed with herbs grilled on sugar cane skewers served with some rice vermicelli wrapped inside beautifully translucent rice paper. Well seasoned, well prepared, served fresh off the grill and rolled right on the table. It is not cheap for only four plump skewers, but the quality does not lie.
The four of us ordered a total of six dishes and everything was just so enjoyable. Also worth mentioning is their Ga Sot Pate which is chicken soup with a thick pate sauce for 140 K IDR++. This dish just blew our minds. Served with your choice of toasted baguettes or rice, we went with the former and we were surprised just how great the pate broth tasted on the baguette.
The Saigon Cafe also serves a range of unique and great tasting cocktails at 100 K IDR++. We had the Saigon Sunset, Red Ao Dai, and Em Saigon and we were really pleased on how enjoyable they all are.
Last but not least, they had the best sauce ever. THE BEST SAUCE EVER. Yes, THE.BEST.SAUCE.EVAHHH. Called the "green sauce", they said that it is principally made with vietnamese light green chili and milk. Yes, milk. I can't explain just how surprised we were to find ourselves asking for more green sauce - we asked for about four small bowls of it. Words cannot express just how genius their green sauce is. It is definitely spicy and has a very subtle aftertaste reminiscent of wasabi, but it is also just so well rounded with the herbs and the umami from the milk whose fat content also ensured that the burning sensation does not linger too long in your mouth.
Definitely more costly than most middle line restaurants in Jakarta, but i can assure you that you do get all that you paid for - and probably more. Just remember to ask for the...
Read moreBest taste of Pho. Been trying all around Jakarta looking for the best and healthiest pho, and the winner is always Yeu Saigon Cafe.
I am visiting here on Saturday Morning with my mom. Had a sore throat and looking for warm food and I remembered Pho and Saigon.
I am ordering Beef salad and Pho Bo Ta Ga. Pho is always the best, and the beef salad are the best. The seasoning is refreshingly sweet and sour at the same time.
Honey Khumquat Lemon Grass and Lemon Grass tea are perfect closure if you're not a coffee person.
The waiter and waitresses services are the best. Responsive, full of smile and always make sure all are good (but not annoying) at the same time.
Thank you for your existance Saigon Group!! Keep up...
Read moreMy second visit here. Food was consistently good. Fresh ingredients, without MSG and not overpowering flavours. You get to taste what you’re really eating. Wished that the food has less of the garnishing of fried onions, or serving it on the side because not many would preferred it on the dishes. The dessert is good too. Had coconut pandan pudding - flavourful, refreshing and sweetness level is perfect. Well decorated with Vietnamese ambience. Service was alright. Just that a little surprised and taken aback when the person who were serving us talking aloud with her colleagues in the restaurant. Also experienced the water bursts out and splashes when she opened the bottle of...
