Philanthropy is one of those rare places in Bali that undersells itself rather than oversells itself. Its obvious when you walk in that they take their coffee, their cocktails and their pizzas seriously. A well stocked bar, a good coffee machine and a golden woodfired pizza oven are the dead give aways...
Strangely though the place has no signage out the front and the menu is very poorly translated leaving you with low expectations that are then well exceeded.
We tried the Pear Shrub based cocktail which was weirdly named and weirdly described but intriguing and in fact delicious. We also tried a pea flower gin based cocktail which was again also very badly named and badly described but again delicious.
The pesto gnocci went down a treat, as did the asian chicken salad. The smoked pork ribs were yummy but needed to be slow cooked for much much longer to achieve the smokyness and tenderness that i would expect from the description.
Overall a nice place in an otherwise very mediochre street, but much much better than expected. I'd definetly come back if...
Read moreWe wanted to try this restaurant as it looked very appealing from the outside and had a nice atmosphere. The staff were friendly, however we were all very disappointed by the experience we had.
Firstly, it took 20 minutes to get served after asking multiple times - it seemed as if only one person out of about 15 staff were serving.
When we received the food, there were intervals of about 10 minutes between each meal and so by the time the last meal came the rest of the table were finished.
The food itself wasn’t the best we’ve had in Nusa Dua, and the pasta was very dry. Also, my Gin ‘Fizz’ was as flat as a pancake.
Overall it was very pricey and cannot justify the price. The place seemed very disorganised and some staff did not seem to know what they were doing - we will...
Read moreDisappointing. We ordered grilled tuna, chicken Asian salad and pizza. The grilled tuna was very hard because it was overcooked, they must have forgotten it on the grill for a while, just like they forgot to season it. The crispy potatoes were good. The chicken in the salad were tiny pieces of chicken breast that were over fried and very hard. I think the most disappointing part was that they served the salad and fish and we didn’t get the pizza for more than 30 minutes. I was finished with my food before my partner got theirs, the staff was unprofessional and not helpful when I asked. I think they forgot the order. The portion sizes were also small for the price, we left hungry and got more food elsewhere. I would not...
