My husband and I showed up here on a Saturday evening around 6:30 without a reservation because it was close to our hotel and it had a good rating. I knew it was a gamble but I thought we'd try anway and I'm so glad we did. Upon arrival, we explained to the hostess that we hadn't made a reservation, fully expecting to be turned away. However, after reviewing their bookings, they graciously offered us a one-hour sitting.
Initially, I was put off by the loud music, a seemingly common feature in Dublin restaurants. Nevertheless, the exceptional service and delicious food quickly overshadowed any initial reservations. As more patrons arrived, the music became less noticeable, allowing us to fully enjoy our meal.
We started with soda bread and butter, which was flavorful and satisfying without being overly dense. While my husband's venison dish was mild, my ribeye was rich and savory. Personally, I wasn't a fan of the mashed potatoes, finding them too smooth for my taste, but this may simply be a personal preference for more textured mash.
The highlight of the evening was undoubtedly the service. The hostess (I think her name was Bridgette) who seated us exuded professionalism and warmth, clearly a seasoned hospitality professional. Her guidance and support were evident in every interaction, as she patiently mentored the younger staff members with gentle instructions. It was clear that she took pride in ensuring guests had a memorable...
Read moreWent for our last night in Dublin and really wish I could say it was as good as expected. I felt really sorry for the 2 servers who had to cope with a lot of tables. You could see they were overwhelmed but they tried to keep up their good standards. The food was good but in my opinion not worth the price tag. Complimentary bread to start were wafer thin and half a slice per person left you wanting more. For starters for had the crab tian and carpaccio followed by the rib eye and venison. Dessert was the chocolate tart to share. The tian was not a tian at all as we know it but rather 3 blobs of crab mayo and Apple mix with shaved cucumber and salad in a bowl, underseasoned. The carpaccio could have done with more seasoning too...the rib eye was ordered medium rare but came out rare...i ate it but as that cut of beef cools down at a rare cooked temperature it gets very chewy...my partner again had to reach for the salt for her venison. It was all in all a good experience but mostly due to the good service and decor. The chef needs to pull his socks up though...maybe being a bank holiday and a Monday the head chef was off as most head chefs take a Monday off anyway...hope to have better luck next...
Read moreService here was very good and our waiter was very nice and helpful. The food on the other hand is deplorable. I ordered a steak that had so much pink peppercorn on it that it was absolutely inedible. After eating several bites I had to leave and go buy antacids at the store across the street to address the the extreme heartburn those bites caused. Upon my return I was told that “American tastes are just different than Irish tastes” with respect to the amount of peppercorn used and that I was simply wrong. Absolutely insulting - I’ve had dishes with pink peppercorn all over the world, including other restaurants in Dublin, and I wouldn’t have fed this steak to a dog it was so inedible.
My mother and sister both ordered the salmon which was served raw despite their request to have it cooked well done. They did remake their order but it was served approximately 40 minutes after the abomination of a steak.
I won’t even comment on how loud it was in here as that was outside their control.
Apparently this place feels their food isn’t made for Americans, so I recommend dining elsewhere per their recommendation if you are American, especially when 3 horrible dishes...
