Reducing rating from 4 to 3 stars due to inflexible and IMO unjustified payment requirememt to make a reservation.
This complication prevents me from going here more often. Many other places are more flexible and the food is decent but not that special and on the pricier side...
The one and only strong reason - sort of their USP - to come here is Saba's new outdoor space, which is great when the weather is sunny but how can one be guaranteed the weather is good 24h in advance, which their policy requires you to cancel. When you do cancel it takes them several days to return the money and they may ever forget to refund you as it happened in my case (only got a refund when I escalated it the local manager).
The other thing I wonder is what incentive does a 24h cancellation policy create in a world where anyone could be tested positive for Covid any time. Some people may even still show up because they already paid...
I would really encourage Saba to rethink their approach:
I don't think such a popular place really needs a penalty for no show if they can give away a table to a walk in after 15 min (that's their policy anyway even if you paid a deposit)
if they really feel they need to charge for a reservation, I suggest to adjust the time window to 1-2h before the booking, which would allow for more fexibility on the guest (e.g. see how the weather is) while providing them with ample time to adjust to change in demand (there is always a walk in).
Anyway, for a more authentic Thai food experience and less hassle I highly recommend Baan Thai...
Read moreI recently dined at Saba, a Thai and Vietnamese restaurant, and I have mixed feelings about my experience. The concept of blending Thai and Vietnamese cuisines intrigued me, prompting me to make a reservation in advance. The service I received was quick and efficient, which is always appreciated when dining out.
Moving on to the cocktails, I found them to be on the sweeter side, so others might find these cocktails enjoyable.
One highlight of the evening was the appetizer called smoked trout meing kam. Served on a betel leaf, it offered a delightful medley of flavors. The combination of smoked trout and the roasted coconut s made for an interesting and enjoyable experience. I would definitely recommend giving this appetizer a try.
Unfortunately, my main courses did not meet my expectations. I ordered the sea bass and Singapore noodles, but neither dish left a lasting impression. I found myself not particularly enjoying the dinner overall.
Considering the mixed experience I had at Saba, I would hesitate to recommend it wholeheartedly. While the service was commendable and the appetizer was a standout, the lackluster main courses detracted from the overall dining experience. However, taste preferences are subjective, so others may have a...
