I did A LOT of research for our 10 days in London and Dublin. I made dinner reservations at some amazing places. More smashing hits than misses for sure.
On a free night after a day trip to Cork, we wanted something "normal" - something familiar and comforting - something truly satisfying. The overwhelming consensus....PIZZA!!!!
I took out the phone and found Boco. A random pick, but it checked all the boxes: great reviews, moderate pricing, a few minutes from the train station, a thirty minute walk to our hotel, and cocktails, not just beer and wine.
When we first walked in just after 7:30p, we thought it had closed. There was only two other parties. With such great reviews, how could it be so dead at this hour? I'll be honest. I was a little concerned. Maybe we were victims of Google review manipulation.
We were offered a seat and were too hungry to try somewhere else, so we gave it a shot. I'll be forever grateful that we stayed.
There were four of us. We ordered four different pizzas. With no exaggeration, they might have been 4 of the 8 best slices I ever tried (a true Chicago deep dish comes to mind - the others might have been after a heavy party night)
We did the #9, 10, 12 and 13.
Crispy. Chewy. Lightly and gloriously charred. Savory. Complex, yet simple. Unctous texture and bite after bite of umami goodness.
I wouldn't go back to Dublin to see The Book of Kells, but I might go back just...
Read moreAh where do I start, Boco is such a rare gem, especially in Dublin where we are all used to being ripped off, or being fooled by the overhype that greets any new place. Boco on the other hands deserves every bit of praise it gets.
Let's start with the food - in my experience, the best pizza in Dublin. Hands down. In particular, #5. Unreal. But what is less known is how good the chicken wings are. I've lovingly sampled chicken wings all across our great city for years, and I have to say Bocos wings are nothing short of sensational. There is more meat on the bone than anywhere else and the blue cheese dip is perfection (apparently they spent weeks working on it). If you are a chicken wing lover, this it it, it does not get better.
But even if Boco didn't have the best chicken wings and pizza around, i would still go. It has a really comfortable, laid back ambience, there's lots of space. The music is really well curated and firmly in the background so you can have a great conversation. There is also a great selection of beers on tap. I would recommend the American beer...can't remember the name.
FInally the staff. Really attentive, friendly and helpful.
In short, I love everything about Boco. If you haven't been, you are in for a...
Read morePros: there are none, absolutely none. ... Cons: We didn't like the attitude of the waitress, we went to another establishment. I don't recommend this place. The waitress is not a polite girl with short hair. The establishment was practically empty, we chose an empty table where we could sit, there were no people nearby, it was lunch, a weekday, the hall was empty. We were not allowed to sit there. The waitress initially asked if we smoked, we answered that we didn’t, but we wouldn’t be embarrassed by people smoking nearby, even though they weren’t around in that place. Then she said that these places where we sat, this table and 10 other neighboring tables were reserved, but on these tables there was not a single sign indicating that these places were occupied. She put the menu on the front table and said she was free here, and seated us next to the only noisy company in a walk-through place. Although there were many free tables in the establishment, we were not allowed to sit at another table, probably it was more convenient for them to seat us that way. We didn't like this attitude, we left for another establishment. I don't...
