Wow thank you Saf. This Place changed my life. Never have I come across a place where good food, service, atmosphere intersect so perfectly resulting in such an ephemeral moment of pure ecstasy. I came in for lunch. Not expecting much to be honest as I am now accustomed to the standard "Bar Cuisine". However on this particular day I had an insatiable appetite. I was wandering the streets of the Liberties thinking through my next best seller novel (I think the raw brain power was devouring all the calories in my body, so much so that I began to percieve a slight reduction in my weight. Yes I was getting frailer..... And there was nothing a chicken fillet role could do about it) And then.... just as I was about to loose all hope.. just as I prepared to give myself up to the mean streets and waist away in the sweltering heat(I really could feel my soul evaporating through my lips).... I gave it one more push because something was pulling me forward... something powerful and possessing, but still gentle and caring. As I broke the crest of Bridgefoot street I looked left and there it was... the shining oasis in the desert. I thought I was hallucinating. It was so beautiful that tragically..... I can't even put it into words. I took one step in its direction and before I could say the word Dudley I was at the door. I took a deep breath and had to fight the urge to bow down in submission before trespassing this holy sight (for if my bow was proportional to the aw I felt in that second surely I would have never stood unbowed again). I stepped through the doors and made my way to the alter. I could hardly speak. but the words "what do you have that is fruity in flavour but still has quite a hoppy taste to it?". That's when Saf answered me. Like a Shaman guiding a clueless tourist through the treacherous paths of the Himalayas, she guided me through their extensive selection of Craft Beers (on tap). I settled for an Ambush and the minute it wet my lips my escaping soul condensed and tricked back down my throat. I nearly collapsed, weak with joy. 'This must be the feeling young Fionn Mac CĂșmhail must have felt when he popped that bubble on the Salmon of knowledges blistering skin', I thought. I cried for a second. Then I ordered a Mac and Cheese. I didn't realise how much I needed it till id scoffed it. Twas only then it occurred to me.....I'd been here for lunch the whole time. God bless you amazing people at Dudleys, Yours...
Read moreThree of us arrived at Dudleys on Mothers Day ( March 10th, 2024 ), for some Guinness & to enjoy the Wales vs France Rugby match. We sat in a 1/2 empty front bar with loads of seating & apparently as paying customers, our two biggest crimes were to 1. ask to change to the channel for Rugby & 2. to place a bouquet of flowers that I had been gifted by my one daughter, on the table next to us. Sophie the manager firstly didnt want to change the channel & then hesitated about switching it to Six Nations Rugby for some bizarre reason only known to herself, in like I mentioned, 1/2 empty pub. After we had ordered a few rounds of Guinness, she purposely came over and asked that we remove the flowers as she needed the table for customers assuming that one of us would somehow not be able to work that one out ourselves, should someone wish to sit beside us, which they didnât. Mothers Day is a special day in Ireland & Rugby is a special game also. I felt lucky I had managed to meet my daughter for a few hours, as I don't live in Dublin. I don't feel any manager of staff member should go out of their way to be so obviously rude & for some reason wish to make a paying customer uncomfortable for any reason without due cause. It was apparent to me that she was. The Liberties area in Dublin is close to my heart, all my ancestors were brought up there & the people who have lived & worked there, for centuries are renowned for their friendliness & kindness. Not a pleasant experience & on Motherâs Day too. Muchas...
Read moreStrolling into Dudleyâs in Dublin for a quick lunch was like stepping into an alternate reality where your wildest fantasies come trueâif your fantasies involve mind-bending cocktails, seductive sandwiches, and a barman named Jools who could charm the stripes off a zebra.
Jools, dear reader, is no ordinary barman. This man is a cocktail sorcerer with the soul of Casanova and the hands of a Greek god sculpting liquid poetry. I ordered a martini, and when he handed it to me, I swear the glass purred in my hand. Every sip was like being kissed by an angel who knows exactly how you like it. Letâs just say, Iâll never look at a cocktail shaker the same way again.
And the lunch? Oh, the lunch! My sandwich was so exquisite, I felt slightly guilty eating itâlike I was taking part in some deliciously forbidden act. Each bite was a love letter to my taste buds, handwritten by a sandwich artist who understands the delicate balance between pleasure and desire. The fries? Well, letâs just say they were so perfectly seasoned, I almost asked for a private moment with them.
By the time I left Dudleyâs, I had more than just a full stomachâI had a new favorite barman, a slightly flushed complexion, and the distinct feeling that Iâd just been involved in something a little naughty. If you find yourself in Dublin and in need of a little thrill, slide into Dudleyâs, ask for Jools, and prepare for an experience thatâs equal parts seductive, surreal, and utterly...
