Service 1/10 & Food was 10/10. We were seated by the kitchen and had the privilege to watch them work and their efficiency, attention to detail and passion for perfection was so impressive. The head chef was especially impressive. The care for each dish leaving the kitchen was so great to see.
In honesty the let down was the service. No major issues; no wrong dishes or allergen mishaps. So in a normal restaurant you would never complain but for a fine dining set-tasting-seasonal menu restaurant I think the bar is higher. We just felt rushed from the moment we arrived. Nothing was explained in terms of the menu. It was assumed we understood what was happening and the food began to arrive before we even understood we didn't need to order. Everything felt rushed, from the initial greeting to the explanations of the dishes to the pouring of the wine. My girlfriend felt the waiter would rather 'we left before dessert.' We were never asked how we we were or if we liked what we had been eating.
Any appearance at our table felt like our waiter wished they could be anywhere else. Even when we left, our waiter was on his phone (the head chef wasn't on the floor at this point) and didn't assist my girlfriend in finding her coat which he had put away when we arrived.
It might sound really nit picky but keep in mind we left a tip and the experience wasn't cheap. Our food experience was still really really positive and we'd highly recommend this restaurants food, but the service could use some fine tuning especially at the prices were dealing with here. It's clear the head chef has really high standards so it should really be matched but the wait staff.
A restaurant is 50% food, 50% experience. If it was only about the food, you'd get a takeaway. There are some amazing restaurants in Dublin therefore I have to recommend you avoid Forest Avenue based on...
Read moreAbsolutely adored dining here, can’t wait until I’ve got an excuse to go back there.
Compared to other bib gourmands and one star Michelins with similar concepts in Dublin Forest Avenue is playing in a different league.
Professional and approachable staff; the head chef/owner came out and chatted with us several times about the food and our waiter realized our wine interest and really tried to accommodate any and every need we had.
The food is beyond incredible. It’s one explosion of flavor after the other - they really find a beautiful balance between challenging the palette and giving pure flavor pleasure!
They don’t have any wine pairing thought out with the dishes, we would’ve loved that - trying to choose wines for dishes we didn’t know before they arrived on the table was no easy feat.
We got a 10 course surprise tasting menu, and the tempo was very high in between plates - too high sometimes, as a warm plate was served during the time I was in the restroom, which is not acceptable. Towards the end there was some miscommunication where they indicated we only had 30 minutes left of our booking but they had yet to serve the last two dishes (they were discouraging ordering any dessert wine or coffee), which was really frustrating as it was clearly a timing issue on their part. It all worked out in the end and they were kind about it!
The only other minor thing was inconsistency in serving/presentation. One dish would always have different proportions of ingredients on the plate compared to the other.
All in all, this was an incredible experience. I’d go for a bottle of wine rather than trying to pair wines, as the price of wines got disproportionately expensive compared to the tasting menu. We also got a little goodie bag when we left, which is was a super nice surprise. Love...
Read moreA demonstration of great talent with a show of beautiful colourful plates with surprising delicious taste! We had booked at forest avenue for a party of 6 about two months in advance and got the only table available on the second floor that can host up to 8 people. In this great atmosphere of a cellar we could be isolated from most noise which makes it easy to talk and totally relaxed. The waiters were very friendly and dishes were coming with little time gap... Which brings me to the only slight critic as one of our friend that eats quite slowly had not finished eating when waiters appeared, therebymaking her hurry up to finish. But honestly that friend really eat slowly too! ;-) The chef and his team were fantastic at taking care of our intolerances and our tastes such as a friend that doesn't like fish. The menu was complemented by quite a few amuse bouches making the experience even more exciting. We were particularly impressed by the range of texture, taste, and colour of the dishes that were often using walnut and mushrooms up to the dessert! The carpaccio of green tomatoes deserved another glass as it was too tall and not transparent to appreciate the colour. The bite with chicken skin was light and crunchy. The home bread, that could make any baker jealous, and the foam butter it came with was heavenly. The velouté with parsnip, lentils and curry was possibly our favourite dish as it is warm, rich, slightly spicy, creamy yet with some bites, and a carrousel of flavours in the mouth. We had no pressure to stay longer at the table. And after 2h of food show, most of us were full and happily enjoying the atmosphere of the...
