As someone visiting from the U.S., I was excited to experience the famous Irish hospitality at a local pub—but unfortunately, that’s not what I received here. From the moment I walked in, I felt unwelcome. The service was cold and dismissive, and I couldn’t shake the feeling that I was being treated differently simply because I was American. On top of that “you yanks are not the sharpest in the shed” sent us. I came in with genuine respect for the culture and the people, but the attitude I received was uncalled for. Whether it was the tone, the eye rolls, or the complete lack of friendliness, the message was clear: I wasn’t wanted.

I understand that not every establishment is going to offer five-star service, but basic decency shouldn’t be optional. If you’re visiting Ireland and hoping for a warm, authentic pub experience, I’d recommend...

It's a nice little place right in the heart of things. Some negatives include a limited menu (few gluten free, veggie, or vegan options) and it can be very touristy. The positives outweigh it though since you're probably there for some good beer, cider, or whiskey, some music, and some atmosphere. Plenty of traditional options (Guinness, Murphy's, etc) and a few different cider options. There are also some local brews available, although those mostly seemed to be from bottles. The best part is the music, with musicians coming in at 5:30 and 9:30 each night. 5:30 was great - get a drink, enjoy the tunes, then continue there or go somewhere else for a meal and continue the night on. Overall, the music makes it worth it as it's just another pub without it, so go when it's not busy or when the...

Went here the other day with my dad and boyfriend. Only managed to buy 1 drink and listen to 10 minutes of live music until the security walked in and asked my boyfriend to come have a chat. We all followed of course and we’re told the manager had noticed that my boyfriend were too drunk and should leave..??? Bear in mind we were calmly listening to the music and had only had 1 drink prior to this. When we questioned this we were told the manager were “ too busy “ to come and chat. We got very disappointed since we’d heard good things about this place and had specifically walked down there to enjoy the music at 9.30pm after we’d had dinner around the corner. Since my boyfriend were definitely not too drunk it’s hard to not see it as discrimination. Will definitely...

Enjoyed a few beverages here over the weekend with my pals and so we decided to go for a bite to eat in it but a bite was all we handle. The plates came out scorching hot which is always a great sign. I myself ordered a breckfast which was completely out of proportion. 4 sausages 2 slices of bacon and a tomato which looked like a bird had picked at it. No puddings came with the meal either. Sausages were also raw. On our way out the door we caught a glimpse of the kitchen and to say our jaw dropped is an understatement. The kitchen consisted of a frying pan and a microwave whick was totally unacceptable. Overall our experience here was nothing short of a disaster.

A great place to soak up Irish nightlife and culture. It’s a loud, busy pub and you might need to stand for a while, but the music and atmosphere is incredible and everyone is there for a good time, to sing and dance and chat. One of my best nights in Ireland so far! Lovely mix of tourist and locals, but if you don’t like crowds or noise, or need lots of space for accessibility, this isn’t the place for you. The band started at 10, not 930pm so if you’re in a rush, probably not your spot, but we enjoyed a hurling game on tv prior to the band. Very chilled and laid back vibe. Also don’t think food is available after lunch. Will be back for sure, thank you!

We really enjoyed the local atmosphere at Taaffes Bar. It has a laid-back, authentic vibe that made us feel right at home. I do wish there were some outdoor seating options to take in the lively scene of tourists passing by, but the casual indoor setting made it easy to relax and have good conversation. The food arrived relatively quickly, which was great. One thing to note, if you're expecting French fries, they actually serve regular chips instead. Just something to keep in mind. Overall, it was a pleasant experience with good service and a welcoming local feel.
