4.5 stars ⭐️ We went to Sangria on the busiest night at 7pm without a booking the staff told us we can dine outside or get a table in 2 hours so we came back at 9pm and we got a very nice table by the window. the restaurant was very busy and loud, the staff came multiple times to apologise for the noise which was really nice We ordered 4 dishes between two people we got : Yuka fritta ; it was mediocre I did not particularly enjoy it but it wasn't bad it just tasted like chunky chips Berejena Ahumada ; was really good it tasted like a less flavourful baba ganoush Dobladas ; was my favourite, it was crunchy from the outside and the veggies inside were soft and very well spiced, it came with a red sauce that was spicy and very delicious. fish tacos which I did not try but my friend said it was the best dish on the table! I really enjoyed the vegetarian menu overall For drinks they have reasonably priced drinks with mocktails being around €4 -- we tried the Kiwi Mojito, Pina colada, Catcha sour and Banana Sucia, you can get all of them as non-alcoholic! the drinks were very good I personally enjoyed the Kiwi mojito the most. Although bathroom stalls were very time (think airplane bathroom but smaller) Sangria was the only restaurant in galway that offered free toiletries ie tampons for free to anyone! it is a huge plus. The staff were very nice and came up to check on you multiple times throughout the meal, the dishes were served 2 at a time, when you're done you get served the next dishes. The only downside now to this restaurant were the prices, we ordered 4 dishes and 4 cocktails which cost 80 euros which is definitely not overboard but we did go to mcdonlads for pre-dinner dinner cuz we were told it would not be enough which was the right thing to do I would recommend about 3-4 plates per person if you're hungry, that would cost around 50e per person! Overall, really really enjoyed my meal and I would come again to try the...
Read moreIt’s hard to review Sangria without having in mind our experience at a tapas restaurant on the same street. However, they are competitors so I don’t think comparisons are unwarranted.
To caveat same, we took a lunch table as opposed to a dinner table so perhaps some aspect may change (albeit the menu will not).
The food was good. The only average dish was the pork belly. A huge chunk of fat didn’t get near rendered and it was fairly bland on its own. The remainders was good, particularly the beef tacos.
Value for money was not good. The beef tacos were €12.50 for two tiny ones (see photo). The pork belly was €10.50 for one square (see photo) when compared with €10 for two decent, flavourful cuts from the aforementioned competitor. I appreciate quality ingredients require cost, but they didn’t even bother to mention their supplies which most high priced restaurants do. Heck, I’ve been at bars that shout out their local suppliers.
Desserts were the saving grace to rescue our experience. The coffee mousse was massive and filling.
Again, it’s hard not to have our experience at the aforementioned tapas restaurant in mind when it comes to service. It was by no means poor, but there was no question as to whether this was our first time visiting, how the tapas experience works etc.
This is not a bad restaurant. It is good. It lacks value for money, even without competitors in mind. However, it is greatly overshadowed by its long...
Read moreHow is their rating so high? We, a party of 4, ordered 8 tapas. 6 came out a a decent time. The remaining 2 came out long after we were done. We wanted to leave. When we asked a waitress, we got the yeah we know they will be right out. One came out 5 minutes later (elote), horrible frozen style corn with sauces that didn’t improve the dish. Then a while later we received the papas bravas. Bland, thrown together fried new potatoes that should have taken 5 minutes actually turned out to be close to an hour. Drinks: when you order a margarita you expect the glass to be full or at least just below the salted rim. The first one looked like someone to a big swig before delivering it to us. The second one was not as bad, but not a full glass. The Cachaça drink was not bad. The end: by the time we received the last two tapas, we were dying to leave. Not a wait-staff to be found. I finally had to get up and go to the manager/host, and ask for the bill. He asks ‘how was everything’, I explained my point of view and he apologized, blamed it on the kitchen, and said they would do better next time. Shame. So much potential.
BTW, I asked a question at the end of the evening to the party, ‘what was your favorite bite of food tonight, one said the Fanta she drank after the restaurant and another said the ice cream we picked up at Murphy’s Thanks for the laugh Molly, (a funny ‘bouncer’...
