The Western Bar & Restaurant — Restaurant in Galway

Had no idea that they had fine dining until recently, as I had not gone further than the pub side of the place. My parents recommended it after eating there. We hosted a group of about 50 people. Which they catered to smoothly with no issue. Rowena was my point of contact as I planned the event from the states and was absolutely fabulous. She was quick to respond, answered my numerous questions in numerous emails. She promptly introduced herself the night of so that I knew she was there making sure it all went smoothly. The food was AMAZING! Sooo delicious and beautifully served. I had not imagined the food for a large group dinner would be so good. I will add that Rowena gave special attention to a friend of ours who was not feeling well and needed her voice for the next days event - she told us that Rowena kept her supplied with tea, honey, lemon, etc. And apparently she did it all very discreetly because we knew nothing about it until our friend told us the next day!!! I wish I had taken photos of the food as it was so pretty, but was a little distracted and too hungry to do so...

The restaurant is lovely, almost romantic atmosphere. Our server was excellent; she was attentive, helpful, and friendly. But the food was a disappointment. We had the pork belly as a starter. There was plenty of it, but it was too salty. I ordered the chicken Supreme. It was a big bowl of risotto, which was blend, and the chicken was a small piece of chicken in the center of this bowl of pasta. There were some brussel sprouts, but they were buried in the sea of risotto. I felt that the meal could have been presented nicer, and focus on the chicken instead of the bowl of pasta. There was a large party going on in the back and our first waiter told us it would be an hour before we could eat. We said we would wait as their musicians were just getting settled in. Bar manager popped over a few minutes later and took our order trying to get it in before the large party really got going. We had our food in just a few minutes and really appreciated the service.
