Where do I begin.... As an American, this fantastic joint is a great reminder of where I come from. I've enjoyed the food at the best restaurants all over Ireland while on my honeymoon with my new wife and there's nothing like a place with bigger portions (I've been in Ireland for a week so far and although I've loved the smaller portions in some restaurants, they've been filling and tasty) and all around great comfort food. There have been a lot of positives and very few negatives about this joint, hence my 4 star review. Upon entry, we were seated without any water (we had to ask for it) which was unusual for any restaurant as the standard is to be brought water shortly after seating and before taking your order. The vibe is great if youre in the mood for an all-american style restaurant however, which I got to enjoy while waiting for a waitress for 10 minutes. The waitress (phenomenal but forgot her name) came over and simply said "ready to order?" and I was blindsided as I was ready to say "water" but instead stated my order. We ordered pulled-pork nachos as an app. They weren't bad but they weren't the best I've had. $12 for flavored chips from the store and cheese spread with some veggies, not bad but delightful. For entrees, I had the J. James Burger and my wife had the ribs. The burger was an excellent representation of American cuisine as it was beyond filling and flavorful. I got to try the ribs and although they fell off the bone, they were a little overcooked but still tasty (again, portion was BEYOND what any average person can handle which is good). We concluded our night by asking for more napkins and asking (again) for water for the table, as our drinks were finished and we needed to wash our food down.
Overall, this restaurant was great but has potential to be better in the quality of the service and in some of the food choices. If desperately needs a visit by the likes of Guy Fieri and Larry the Cable Guy. Whether you're an American tourist, or a local, you should try this place at least once. Go in with an open mind and you'll have a great time, but go in expecting the best meal in Killarney and you'll surely be...
Read moreWhile visiting Kerry I searched for somewhere to get something vegan, we decided to try here as they have vegan options. I wanted to try the vegan burger but then gf bun wasn’t vegan. I saw the Taco fries on the menu which read chips, Onions, Tofu, Beans, Taco and vegan Cheese. My partner and I were hungry after a long drive from Cork but we were disgusted when two bowls of chips arrived after reading about all the peppers and tofu etc that was meant to be on the meal. We knew we didn’t get why we read on the menu but we were starving so we ate it and paid as the waitress was busy the whole time we were there so didn’t have time to address the issue. We were then shocked to look at the receipt to see we were charged nearly €14 for a Taco fries, really just fries with some beans and a few shreds of vegan cheese, they forgot the Taco sauce and there was nothing else on it as described. We got 2 Taco fries which were in bowls, certainly not main sized, a small coke and Garlic bread and it was €35. I contact them directly but was give a refund for one of the fries and told how I need to consider his over heads. It’s chips... and beans. After running a restaurant in Toronto for 2 years I’m well away of the costs involved in running a restaurant. Stay away from here if...
Read moreCrazy prices, sub standard food, horrible burger.
Visited here yesterday (21st September) for lunch as we were staying in Killarney for the weekend.
Things started off great, got to our seats and the atmosphere was good.
We started off with the nachos and credit where credit is due, the nachos were delicious.
However it was on the main course where things took a turn for the worst, I ordered a standard burger and it was the driest, most tasteless burger I have ever had, so dry I had to get a second drink and still couldn't finish it.
How much was the burger?? €15.90,(served with chips) crazy, I could of got a better burger in a takeaway close by for half the price.
There was an average portion of chips and to be fair they were nice
Another thing that I noticed and kind of annoyed me is the staff didn't seem interested to work, they seemed more interested to stand in the corner and talk to each other than to serve customers.
It would take around 10 mins to get their attention.
It's because of the nachos and chips that this is a 2 star review and not worse but you would also find these items elsewhere perhaps cheaper.
Conclusion:, nachos good, chips average, burgers dry...
