Peter & Monica's Takeaway / Restaurant — Restaurant in The Municipal District of Bray

I had a disappointing and uncomfortable experience at Peter & Monica’s Takeaway / Restaurant on June 22nd, 2025, around 4:00 PM.

Upon arrival, I was greeted by a man in chef attire (who appears to be one of the owners, as I later recognized him from the restaurant’s official Facebook photos). I was asked if I was alone, and when I said yes, he told me I couldn’t sit inside because “no tables were available” – even though there were multiple empty tables clearly visible.

Instead of seating me at one of those, he pulled a table and chairs out from inside and arranged them on the sidewalk, as if to deliberately separate me from other guests.

He also asked me where I was from and whether I ate pork – personal and irrelevant questions that made me feel profiled. I told him I was from the Middle East and only eat chicken. He chose a dish for me as that’s the only options they had available from the menu .

While waiting, a small basket of bread was placed on my table. I ate two pieces. A few minutes later, another staff member walked over and silently took the bread basket away, without explanation. It felt demeaning.

I calmly asked about the situation. The same man returned with the chicken dish. I told him I no longer wished to eat and preferred to pay and leave. I explained that I came to respectfully order and pay, not to be treated as if I was receiving charity or unworthy of basic hospitality.

He then offered to give the meal as takeaway and said I didn’t need to pay. I refused, as I believe it’s wrong to accept food from a place where the service felt discriminatory and dismissive.

As someone working in Dublin and interacting frequently with local businesses, this experience was disappointing and out of place in a country as welcoming as Ireland. I hope the restaurant reflects seriously on how it treats guests from diverse...

Dear Peter and Monica, thank you very much for your warm welcome and for preparing these very authentic romanian special dishes in your restaurant today. Sarmale, sausages, french fries 🍟 and papanasi were delicious! Very happy enjoying lunch with my family 5 star ✨ it is a place I have been trying to find for many years in Dublin/ Wicklow.

P.S. Note for future customers. If you are reading negative comments, food experience is not the same for everyone. For example, I tried Romanian Food because I already have favourite restaurants to eat Pizza. Next time I will give a try. My dishes could be dressed with garlic sauce which I do not recommend if your stomach is delicate or sensitive. Also If your tongue is not used to spice then better ask first for mild sauces and dishes that are more simple in elaboration.

Mustard for me was just perfect sweet and balanced. Please also keep in mind that everyone has different points of view. I respect the way Peter manages his business because he is working with experience and heart, and also his local is opening late until 2am!

I worked for my family restaurant for 7 years. It was not the best so far for everyone but many people enjoyed and helped me to have education, and have better opportunities so please be kind and constructive. Peter is a unique human and he and his team work hard to bring up the best food...

Hi, I'm sending this to inform you of the reckless driving one of your delivery drivers has done tonight endangering my family as we where making our journey home. As I was driving down the vevay road past tesco your delivery driver who was driving a green transit van dangerously tailed my car worrying myself and my partner he would collide with my car at any moment but he then quickly over took my car clearing myself and a parked bus all while braking a red light endangering other road users he then made his way through the slip road at the front of mc donalds making a right turn which isn't aloud so he clearly had no regard for the road signs stating no right turn. I believe drivers that put other road users at risk shouldn't be on the road and it is putting a bad image on yourself as your business is always my first choice but sadly I will not be funding this reckless driving and if nothing is done about this I will pass this along to the guards as putting my 2 young children in danger like your driver done will not be...
