Matt the Millers was on our list of dinner choices and we got there around 6:30pm just before the dinner rush. The restaurant was also a bar and has three levels. It seemed like the top floor held the kitchen and dining for large parties. The bottom basement floor was just a bar, and the main floor has about 15 tables of 2-4 with 2 bars. Although it was pretty big, it filled up quickly. We got an appetizer platter to share, a cocktail, and tried a few whiskeys because this bar is known for being a pretty good whiskey bar. The food and drinks were pretty good and as we ate, we had a front row seat to people watch all the other tourists coming in looking for a place to eat. Some folks were willing to wait at the bar, while others were simply turned away. They had a few servers but it certainly felt busier than what they were expecting. Once again in Kilkenny, the staff was very nice to us

Great food for our first night in Ireland. We tried to go to another bar but moved on after we found out they were only serving tacos, so glad we came here instead. The place is very interesting with lots of floors and levels and stairs. They had live music playing, we only had to wait about 10 minutes for a table. We ordered the Guinness Stew and fish and chips. The fish and chips is a little different since it's breaded, not battered, but it was still really good, Tartar sauce was just the right amount of horseradish. The stew was definitely the highlight. Absolutely amazing. I tried stew in another place later and this one was much more flavorful and the meat was very tender. The bread with the stew was good, but not the best we had during our week in Ireland.

This pub is a fantastic spot for anyone who loves live music, great food, and a solid drink menu. The atmosphere is warm and lively, with talented local musicians playing most nights. The wings are top-notch — crispy, saucy, and full of flavor. Their fish and chips are equally impressive, with perfectly battered fish and golden fries. There’s a great mix of local craft beers and popular picks on tap. The cocktails are surprisingly good too — creative and well-made. Service is friendly and fast, even when it’s busy. It’s the kind of place where you can settle in for the night. Whether you're out with friends or just want a good pint and live tunes, this pub delivers. A true hidden gem worth revisiting.

We stayed in Kilkenny on our cross country trip and ended up eating at this establishment. The first impression wasn't great as we weren't greeted by a server for quite a while. Once we ordered we also had some confusion with other servers who weren't aware of who was in charge of our table. Also, once we were finished, our server came to us and tried to take our order as though we had just arrived. This was even before our bill came. So service was not fantastic.

All that being said, the food was quite good and worth the wait. First, the chowder. We have made a point of ordering the seafood chowder whenever it is served at a restaurant. It was honestly the best seafood chowder I have ever eaten. It was meaty, thick, and flavorful. This alone made our walk worth it.

The Ceasars salad that my wife ordered was also very generous and tasty. Some lettuce did get warm because of the hot chicken breast they put on top but it did not take away the taste.

The fish was also above average. It was a bit tough for my liking but it was well prepared and flavorful. I would definitely recommend if you are...

Just want to give a massive shout-out to Jennifer at Matt the Miller’s for being so incredibly sound. We’ve been looking for somewhere to host a small, casual wedding party in Kilkenny and after traipsing around to many establishments that weren’t quite right, we finally found Jennifer at Matt's. She couldn’t have been more helpful or generous with her time and expertise. Jennifer showed us all the available options for what Matt’s could offer, made suggestions for how the day could run, talked us through menu options, and was just generally very informative without being pushy. She also then followed up with an email which outlined all that we’d discussed so that we had a reference for all the details. She’s been fantastic to respond to all questions via email, and I just couldn’t recommend her enough to anyone looking for a venue hire in Kilkenny. Matt’s is an altogether great pub, with good food, friendly service, and excellent live music. Highly recommend checking this place out, particularly on a...

The music was GREAT, the drinks were good, the food wasn't bad. My wife had the warm goat cheese salad and she enjoyed it. I ordered a bacon cheeseburger, which only comes well done because of the mad cow disease scare a few years back. If you're American and like your burgers Medium/Medium Rare... Order a steak instead. We were there for the Irish music which went from 6:30-9, which was really the best part of the experience. The waiter we had was nice but it seemed like he had too many tables to handle and we felt neglected. He dropped off our food and ran away before I could ask him for ketchup. I tried to get his attention unsuccessfully and ended up needing to walk up to the bar to get ketchup myself. There was no midmeal check-in to ask if we needed anything and it wasn't until after we were both done eating that he finally came back. I was leaning towards 3 stars but my wife really enjoyed her salad and the music was great so I bumped...
