Ben-Sira Hummus — Restaurant in Jerusalem

Got to this location by foot because of a job we were doing nearby. Went here to get falafel and were surprised by the nice-boutique feeling of this small establishment. Got a falafel sandwich for each of us. 22nis each, on the high side price wise. The sandwich was great. Ben-sira, you got great balls! They had a crunchy exterior and a moist interior. I’m not sure if they do, but they tasted like they had fried onions in them. Hummus and tahini were phenomenal. And were made on location (note if you’re pregnant…). The pitta was soft and fresh. The veggies were in nice big chunks and had a fresh crunch to them. All in all, I liked this place. And I thank The Lord that I found this hole-in-the-wall. Been around many Hummus places in Israel, and flavor-wise this was the least enjoyable. The taste is mediocre at it's best. Honestly, it doesn't taste very good at all. The Hummus itself is just okay, somewhat bland, and the extras are not so good. The mushrooms were burnt and the chic-peas didn't have much flavor. Overall, all the other Hummus places I've visited through many years were better. I'm giving it 2 stars and not less because it's still priced like Hummus (actually around 10% more than other places, but I consider it too be due to the location) and from the doubt that I've eaten there at night, around 11pm, since Hummus goes bad quickly. As far as hummus goes, this is the place to go in Jerusalem city center. Hip crowd, lots of tourists - can get really busy during lunch time. Come early or a little later to avoid the rush. Order at the bar and take your food to the table yourself. With the plate of hummus you get pickles, some veggies and a few falafels fresh from the deep fryer... The hummus is excellent, relatively delicate in taste compared to other hummus places. Israelis like to declare that they eat at the best hummus place in the known universe - this is just a cool little spot with great food, which I enjoy often. Totally worth the visit.
