Checked out this restaurant based on a locals recommendation. Was excited to check it out as I wanted to take a break from eating meat. Right when we came in we were asked if we had a reservation, luckily they made an exception. We ordered the pizza, tomato carpaccio, bread with dip and mushroom risotto dish. The carpaccio was excellent, very well seasoned. The pizza was good except they could improve on cooking the center better, so the pizza doesn't fall apart with the heavy toppings. In addition, the mushroom risotto was cooked al dente and the shitake mushrooms were delicious. However, where it fell apart was our server. Watch out for the girl with the short hair and glasses. She seems to have a serious attitude or dry humor. After we ordered our food she ask, "is that all you're ordering? "As if we didn't know how much we were ordering or trying to increase the tab. Then I was struggling to cut the pizza to separate the slices, the waiter ask, "is everything okay?" I replied, "everything's good" Then she says, "so you're just playing with your food?" As if I were a 3 year old. I don't find that appropriate to say to a customer. Finally, at the end of the meal it was awkward the server asked if we're leaving a service charge and how much? So he prepared to be put on the spot. If we had a different server I'm sure the experience would of been...
Read moreAbsolutely nice place, well designed and comfortable. Also friendly stuff and nice menu . Hard facts : the menu isn’t cheap at all and sorry to say a little bit to less Effort in the dishes for this pricing . I had a good starter but nothing special (miso sauce, meet substitute, enoki mushrooms). I was looking forward to the pasta (tortellini, beetroot, pekanbutter) but it was absolutely nothing special (sorry but I’m working as a chef myself ) . The aroma combination itself is good but the sauce was to fat, thick, to less salt and the dish it self to heavy . A combo with a fresh beetroot salad, some lemon peel or wild herbs would be grate . But it was just a lot of cream and butter taste (to taste the flavor of the pecans some salt and umami is missing). To feel the elegance of the beetroot you’ll need acid … the tiramisu was anything but not a tiramisu … the cake / bisquit was hard, frozen, espresso missing . The cream was watery and less flavored…. I’ll also pay more if it’s worth but it was one of the most expensive experiences in vegan Tel Aviv but the most overrated...
Read moreMeshek Barzilay is a whole experience. Located on a street that's magical and has a more rural feel to it, but still standing in the center of Tel Aviv, the mere arrival to the restaurant already sets the mood. The country side bubble is inviting, and right off the batt the experience feels professional. The service is kind and helpful, and the dishes themselves are unique and rather Israeli (and exclusively vegan). The meals are plated beautifully (unfortunately, I was too hungry to take a moment to capture them!), and their size is more than enough to sate the appetite. The music isn't too loud and allows conversation, and the atmosphere is very soothing yet energizing. Price wise the place does not differ much from non-vegan places, and a breakfast for two offers more than enough food and drinks. Overall, the experience is professional, tasty, and welcoming, and if that's not enough then you should definitely try the neighbourghing Meshek Barzilay shop, which offers vegan cheese and spreads and desserts ehich yiu can take...
