La Giara — Restaurant in Anacapri

We had a 3 course lunch here as part of the 'Gold' package from CapriTours. The location is very relaxing and the restaurant has a totally calm atmosphere as there is only a garden on the opposite side of the street. The calamari was a little overdone, but the gnocchi starter was great! I thought the chocolate desert was very dry, but this may just be the style here. La Giara was a pre-paid lunch stop for our tour group, and the food and service were OK. But it was clearly a tourist-trap restaurant, as evidenced by the color picture menus prominently displayed out front. I felt bad for a few couples and small groups that were there next to our group, since they seemed to be getting the short end of our otherwise very good service. The meal wasn't bad by any means, but if my wife and I were traveling alone then I'm sure that one minute online would have shown us multiple better places within five minutes...

It’s sad that we nearly didn’t come here because of the reviews. Glad we did though. My grilled octopus was outstanding. Pepperoni pizza was really flavorful and the crust was very good. One of the better ( to my likings) I’ve had in Italy. I also had the mixed grill which eat item was cooked to perfection. My with thoroughly enjoyed her scampi pasta. The service was very friendly and efficient and the ambiance could only have been improved with a little music. All in all a very good dining experience for a...
