Well maintained steps up from the port to Anacapri. I think there are 921. It's tough, but doable. It took me about 45 minutes. It was on Google maps for me. I then went on the chairlift at Anacapri. Had lunch at Atmosphere in Anacapri and went to the villa. Walked down to Capri town. Then back down to the port. I'd booked the 10.45 boat from Naples and the 6.45 boat back. This was plenty of time. Personally I found Capri Island too touristy. Queues for all transport on the island. Chaotic wait for boarding the boat, both at Naples (left standing 30 minutes in the sun due to delay, no announcements), and at Capri (passengers gathered on a small pier area where no one could move, pass by or sit). But I'm glad I've been and did the walk up and the chair lift, plus the villa visit. I'm also glad this was on my last day of a 5 day Naples visit..I ached for 5 days afterwards! Read moreA MUST!! Probably the oldest steps in Europe built appx. 6 century BC. One of, if not the most beautiful scenery & views you will ever see. If you can't walk it there are bus tours that bring you to the top, but if you are active, and in good shape I would recommend it, the walk down, makes you feel like the God's would walking down from heaven. 👼🏼 At the top you are rewarded with great views of Capri/Marina Grande and the Bay of Naples/Mt. Vesuvius. From the top of the steps you can access the other end of the island, Anacapri, Piazza Vittoria, S. Michele Church, and the chairlift to Monte Solaro.
I'm actually surprised it isn't a bigger tourist attraction, it was...
Read moreIf you go up from Capri to Anacapri, which you should, you need to go by way of the Phoenician Steps. Instead of the fast drive up in a taxi, you can go by way of the steps for the most scenic view you could imagine. The Phoenician Steps are compiled of 921 stone steps leading you up into Anacapri. It sounds like it is just a giant staircase but it is much much more than that. Weaving through the forest, clinging to the side of a cliff, and diving under a road, this staircase gives you every single view you could imagine, and a nice workout. If you find yourself in Capri, skip the taxi and take the climb, because it'll be something you'll remember...
