As we had just arrived in Atrani, we didn’t have time to explore and headed to the town’s piazza. We quickly gauged the surrounding restaurants and saw that Il Birecto had the most welcoming, relaxed vibe at a reasonable price.

Service was friendly and efficient, and even though we tried ordering in Italian, it mustn’t have been very good because our waiter spoke to us in English. We were happy to make the language switch! They were very welcoming and were happy to explain the ingredients for the dishes we ordered as I have a food intolerance.

We started with drinks, a lemon spritz and a peach iced tea. The spritz was a generous serve and the iced tea was a canned drink and served with a glass of ice. Both refreshing.

My husband and I ordered 4 dishes to share. We had a starter, eggplant parmigiana which is a local dish, and it did not disappoint. It was fragrant and delicious. Next we shared two pasta dishes. The first was linguine with prawns and lemon. A classic dish of the area done extremely well! Fresh juicy seafood and lemons that the coast is known for. This comes out on a sizzling pan. As they say, the eyes eat first! The second dish was gnocchi alla sorrentina. These are small potato dumplings in a rich tomato sauce with basil and mozzarella. Delicious. We added a mixed salad as a side and that was a crisp and refreshing mix of salad leaves, tomatoes and matchstick carrots. It comes out with sachets of evo olive oil, balsamic vinegar, salt and black pepper so you can dress it to taste.

They also offer dessert and coffee but we were just too full! We will return and leave room for dessert next time.

Everything was excellent!...

I'm disappointed with my experience at this restaurant. The portion sizes are not provided, making it difficult to know what to expect. I ordered a mini lasagna for 15€ that makes no one full, but it didn't resemble a traditional lasagna. The mojito we ordered was mostly ice, with old lime and mint, making it undrinkable. The service was not great, as the waiters cleared our table before we were finished eating. Additionally, we were given small packages of salt, pepper, and oil, only to have them taken away before we were done. It's also frustrating to have to pay extra for the table and chair. Overall, I did not enjoy the food and would not recommend this restaurant or return in the future. — After this I ordered a pizza for 7€ in another restaurant in the corner and was so nice, a big pizza that made me full and tasted delicious! In response to the restaurant: From what I noticed, unfortunately after the fact, it seems like all the genuine reviews of people's experiences were incorrect. It's quite clear what's happening. Telling customers that they can't distinguish between fresh and frozen food is the most nonsensical thing I've ever witnessed. Especially if you don't know where they are from. This is not authentic Italian cuisine! People consume what they ordered because wasting food is not something to be proud of. If you can't handle criticism, you shouldn't be serving...

This place is incredible! We stayed in atrani for our honeymoon. Best place, in all honesty. We were meant to stay in Positano but thank god we didn’t as it gets packed shoulder to shoulder.

That aside this restaurant was by far our favourite. Our first night in town we were both worn down sweaty tired and at each others throats, staff Nicola welcomed us in kept the kitchen open a little late and pointed us to some house made gnocchi and grilled octopus. Us not really caring what we ordered took it on. BEST GRILLED OCTOPUS! Large portion hot and fresh. I’m not a huge pasta and gnocchi fan. Officially converted 😂. The price was crazy cheap as we would soon find out.

Not wanting to miss out on the hype we went to Amalfi, a short walk away the following day and had dinner. It’s a really nice town and very beautiful but we paid double for half the amount food and for it to come out cold.

Third night we had dinner again at IL BIRECTO and ordered the grilled seafood platter and clam pasta. I can’t hype this place up enough. The food is just so damn good.

Look the photos should add more of an idea but honestly it’s a must try. And the crew are amazing.

Massive shout out to the chefs! And our waiters Andrea, Carolina and Nicola. Extra loud shout out to NICOLA for the warmth on the...
