Le 2 Aquile — Restaurant in Bari

Due to the good ratings on Google, we decided to visit this place. Right before opening we were at the restaurant and got a place for three people without reservation. Staff is not really communicative or even let’s say welcoming. The ordering process was also quite confusing: if you are 3 people, you are NOT allowed to select three different courses. I have never witnessed something like this. At least two people have to select the same meal, otherwise „it is too complicated to prepare due to limited resources in the kitchen“. Excuse? What the hell is that?!? Taste of the food was just average. I was not able to understand the good reviews since the food didn’t taste taste any special. No culinarily enlightening. Additional one negativ point: some other customers brought their dog into the restaurant. I am not used to that, but since I personally love dogs there is nothing bad about that. Tried to visit last evening after a local highly recommended the restaurant to us. We’ve dinned the top restaurants all over the world and we were excited to try the very best, but not fancy, local Bari food - as recommend. They told us we didn’t need to make reservations if we arrived early. We arrived at 7:30pm and saw about 2-3 parties eating inside and about 90% of the tables were set but empty. We opened the door and a woman in her 60s ran to us. We asked for a table for 3, she said “We’re full” - no additional explanation, didn’t offer to make us reservations for later or the next day and just slammed to door shut in our face. Clearly, not full, not busy, but just didn’t want to serve us for some mysterious reason. It was busy so we sat outside. Normally we wouldn’t mind but this meant we were in a fog of smoke due to inside diners coming out to smoke - ideally there would be separate areas.

The wine was 3e for half a litre - which is insane value however it tasted so bad we couldn’t drink it.

The service was poor - we felt like an inconvenience and our plates we quickly dropped to the table. It seemed service was much better inside with people getting olive oil and bread - we got nothing and even had to ask for cutlery at times.
