Disappointing..

I wanted to love this place having head good things about it, but unfortunately it didn't live up to the expectations.

There was no English menu, so we asked for recommendations from our waitress. It was hard to judge how much food to order for 2 people, especially knowing that 'primi' and 'secondi' isn't the equivalent of 'starter' and 'main' in UK.

We loved the authentic Italian atmosphere, beautiful homely decor and friendly service.

Our waitress was helpful and suggested we went for two pasta dishes as a starter, followed by Cuttle fish and Bombette for the main course.

We had watched people arrive, sit down, order food, had starters before us, and so within 45 mins of waiting we asked our waitress if our starters were coming... They did - after 1hr 15mins of waiting... by that time we had finished our bread basket and drank (expensive) bottle of wine.

My Orrichiette 'Turnip top' pasta was watery and so bitter it was unpleasant to eat. Main courses were ok, but did not have any side dishes: Bombette were just parcels of meat and Cuttle fish - no salad or any greens, or potatoes, or other side..

I think we might have had much better experience if we had gone for their 'Tasting menu' especially considering our bill was over £200 for 2 people..

Un'esperienza che pessima è dire poco. Cari, con cibo ad un livello mediocre. Arriviamo, ci fanno accomodare al nostro tavolo. La cameriera ci propone di mettere al centro "qualche antipastino", che per fortuna non tutti volevamo. L'antipastino si componeva di qualche sgagliozza (polenta fritta, per chi non è del posto), dei funghi sott'olio, galletto ruspante, trippa al sugo (che noi abbiamo detto di non volere, ma che hanno deciso di mettere lo stesso per "farcela assaggiare") due pezzi di focaccia ai carciofi, qualche pezzetto di un pesce che ora non ricordo. Tutto questo, si badi bene, in un vassoio con le varie "vaschette" (foto allegata), dove in buona sostanza con un cucchiaio la "porzione" era già finita. Non assolutamente un antipasto per 4 persone. Il prezzo di questa cosa indecente? 60 euro. Fosse stata per 6 sarebbe stato lo stesso, perché a quanto pare il vassoio è sempre lo stesso, ma "solo" a 30 euro in più. Chiediamo una "selezione di formaggi": sul menù, si badi bene, è scritto che si tratta di una selezione di formaggi con confetture per accompagnare. Risultato? Un piattino vuoto, con 8 pezzi di formaggio messi uno sopra l'altro. Formaggi particolari? Assolutamente no, qualche pezzo di Brie, qualche pezzo di scamorza affumicata ed un altro formaggio che ricordo aver mangiato acquistandolo al discount. Delle confetture scritte sul menù, ovviamente nemmeno l'ombra. Ordino un primo, le "orecchiette festaiole", con ragù di carne: la carne era "buona", ma la pasta mancava di sale. Alcuni di noi chiedono un dolce: un tiramisù, al costo di € 6,00 per un misero bicchierino da shot con all'interno un accenno di tiramisù. Arriva il momento del conto: € 35,00 a persona, per un totale di € 210,00. Al che, già molto irritato, faccio presente in cassa tutte le mie rimostranze: la cassiera sembra anche volersi "mettere da sopra", iniziandomi a dire che "i formaggi erano particolari", che "sono formaggi scelti e pezzi selezionati", quando invece, come ho scritto, si trattava di banalissimi formaggi in vendita al banco di qualsiasi discount. Alla fine, mi dice "vabbè, ma abbiamo fatto un piccolo sconto, in pratica è come se lo aveste pagato 5 euro", quando lo sconto era per arrotondare la quota pro capite e comunque, almeno nella scuola dove mi hanno insegnato la matematica, 12 - 5 fa 7 e non 5. Senza considerare che nemmeno hanno servito le confetture come scritto sul menù. Io di ristornati ne ho girati parecchi, dalle trattorie a conduzione familiare fino ad esperienze in ristoranti stellati. Se pensano di poter prendere in giro i clienti, hanno ancora parecchia strada da fare. Per cifre molto inferiori, ho mangiato in posti molto più belli e di livello di gran lunga superiore. Di strada ne hanno da fare parecchia, ad iniziare dal rapporto con il cliente. Da evitare assolutamente, mi sono davvero...

Almost 3 PM, lunch is past. I'm pretty much the only customer here. As far as the ambiance is concerned, it's very charming and feels like an old Italian cafe. Although it's old, it feels clean. The staff is friendly and attentive to my needs, very kind and polite. As I sat, I was offered water gifted a small appetizer, an Italian bread from the oven with olive oil. It was nice. My disappointment comes from the food that I ordered and received.. I was disappointed as I asked for a recommendation, and specifically said that I wanted a creamy pasta. I got some strange little pasta in a "creamy sauce of zucchini", but there was no sign of "actual cream". The taste was not bad, but nothing that'll I'll remember forever like this dish of pasta I had in New York city 30 years ago that I still remember until this day!
