Antico Pozzo Ristorante — Restaurant in Bellagio

Feeling very ripped off and angry at the moment!!! The restaurant is up a really nice back street and is very presentable. Staff were friendly enough and service was quick. And the food was quite good too to be fair. However, two things. Firstly, having been in lake Como for 4 days now every meal out we have had we have been brought a complimentary bread basket to the table after ordering our food. Here we were also brought bread. We didn’t ask for it, they just brought it. Upon receiving the bill at the end of the meal we discovered we had been charged for it! Secondly, and this was seriously wrong….. the ‘bottled still water’ that we ordered was 100% tap water. Again, every other meal we have had we have been brought a sealed bottle of water that we have opened ourselves and the seal has been broken. Here, the waitress undid the white plastic cap and put it in her pocket. I also noticed that the ring at the bottom that normally snaps away was intact. We then drank some and immediately noticed an after-taste. During my meal I then saw the other waiters doing exactly the same thing. There were even stains, like limescale type stains on the inside of our bottle!!! They would deny it obviously but we know what we saw and it was so obvious they were refilling the bottles with tap water and screwing the lids back on. If I spoke Italian I would happily have challenged them and refused to pay for the water. And if it was in my own country I would report them. Really naughty!!!!! Our visit to this restaurant was far from pleasant, mainly due to the staff’s unprofessional and rude behavior. While the initial atmosphere seemed welcoming, things quickly took a turn for the worse.

When I politely inquired if a phone charger was available, the owner curtly replied, “No, we don’t have that service here.” While I completely understood if that was their policy, the tone was unnecessarily rude and uninviting.

After placing our orders, we noticed other customers who arrived after us being served first. Despite waiting for nearly 30 minutes, our order had yet to arrive. When we asked the waiter for an update, he simply made a dismissive hand gesture, signaling us to “be patient.” This was the first time we followed up, yet the response felt dismissive and disrespectful.

More time passed, and others continued to receive their orders while ours was still nowhere to be seen. Frustrated, we decided to leave. At this point, the waiter invited us to the kitchen to “see our order.” When we expressed our frustration, he shockingly told us to “shut up” and used foul language, escalating the situation unnecessarily.

The owner then intervened, but instead of resolving the issue, they rudely told us to leave the premises. This experience was a glaring example of poor customer service and a complete lack of professionalism.

I recently dined at Antico Pozzo in Bellagio, Italy, and it was an very good culinary experience. We started our meal with the Carpaccio, a delicate dish featuring tender slices of beef adorned with Parmigiano and rocket.
