Very rude staff. They choose who sits on the terrace depending on their outfit. Basic food for high prices. Don’t go there.
Update :
Writing with frustration, yes : most probably after how your colleague talked to my husband and me 😊, though surely not with malice. I never mentioned the taste of the food in my initial review, only that it was really basic for the price. However, since you brought it up : it honestly tasted more like a frozen pizza that I had to force myself to eat (and that I actually couldn’t finish) than anything else.
I’m glad you noticed me in person, and even expected you to acknowledge me since we have been seated closer to the fridges and the kitchen than anywhere else. You did come over to talk about my review : a gesture I actually appreciated, and you were very polite (probably hoping I would take it down??). But it was mainly to tell us that you don’t discriminate based on outfits… even though I personally saw people being seated on the terrace only after we asked and your colleague refused. Very sorry for the face I made, that’s just what happens when I know I’m being lied to 🥺🥺 What’s really the worst part, though, is the way your tone changes : polite in person, then rude in your written reply. It says more than you think about you.
Thank you for the compliment, I guess ❤️
Advice: If, as a restaurant in a tourist area, you can’t take criticism about your service or show basic respect to your customers, maybe don’t open one. Or perhaps ask advice from your competitor next door, who actually provides much better service...
Read moreTerrible customer service. We asked for a table for two outdoors and were shown to a table and the waitress started setting it. As we waited a group of 6 people came behind us and another waitress said we couldn’t have that table anymore as the table for 6 would be seated there, including the tables beside it where people were still eating, and we would be seated elsewhere on a table where others were still eating. I asked for clarification due to people still eating at these tables and I was spoken to very patronisingly to explain again and the waitress pointed at a couple still eating their dinner and said “they’re nearly finished” to which the couple looked quite shocked by this and later asked for a menu again to show they were not nearly finished. The waitress then said we could have the original table again due to me questioning this. The owner then came and apologised and I said “it’s fine, I just didn’t appreciate the way I was spoken to and the waitress pointing at people eating their food was quite rude”. The menu was then snatched out of my hand and we were told to leave and he followed us up the road and tried to take a photo of us after I took a photo of his restaurant name in order to write this review. Him trying to take a photo of two women was extremely invasive. Also, I’m a noticeably...
Read moreMario's "La Fontana" was my first meal in Italy on a recent 3-week foodie trip. We warmly met him at the door around 7:30pm and asked if there was a table - we were sat right away (in early May). This place is a real treat! When I told Mario that this was my first meal in Italy, he said, "You're starting at the top!" And he wasn't wrong. This was one of my favorite evenings of the whole trip, and we ate a several Michelin-star establishments, including Massimo Bottura's Franceschetta58. The "Antipasto di mare" for 2 was divine. The risotto was the best I've ever had. The mixed fried plate ("Gran fritto") was exactly the kind of fresh delicious seafood I'd been craving. The dessert and wine were excellent. The olive oil and balsamic were mouth-watering, the best I'd ever had up to that point. With wine, antipasto, insalata, primi and secondi, and dessert, it ended up being around 45 Euros per person for us. Not bad for a 3 hour meal that was one of my favorites in foodie heaven!
In short: if you're looking for an excellent dinner in Bellagio, look no further than La Fontana! Plenty of tourists here, but I saw some locals, too, which is a good sign. Reservation recommended. Grazie mille Mario for such a lovely introduction to Italian cuisine!! I'll always...
