Trattoria Del Teatro — Restaurant in Bergamo

I cannot recommend this restaurant. Service was good, and we had not to wait too long. But the food was mediocre, no feast for the eyes and way too expensive. We ordered the polenta with cheese which - no surprise - turned out to be a mush. Was tasty. My wife had the stockfish. It also was a mush without any decoration. My beef was being served in three slices, some sauce, and also, no decoration. Tasty. The side dish, a polenta was, of course, a mush. Then I had the creme caramel which was very unspectacular in look and taste and again had no decoration. It looked like it was taken from a supermarket cooling shelf. The wine, two glasses, was OK and surprisingly cheap. All in all, we paid 90 Euros for two. Too much for that mush. Other dishes may be different but from the other comments they are...

Bella la location, sia interna caratteristica che esterna sulla bella piazza. Cameriera gentile e professionale, anche se non sa rispondere subito come sono conditi i casoncelli alla bergamasca del menù. Tavolo ben curato così come gli spazi e le posate. Casoncelli buonissimi, attesa in linea con quanto previsto sul menù. Per contro come già segnalato in altre recensioni, il pane non è in linea con il livello a cui si vuole proporre il ristorante, una specie di baguette secca. Così come anche si riconferma l'evidente ripudio al pagamento con la carta di credito: mi viene chiesto dalla cameriera al tavolo se pago in contanti o carta, allora mi chiedono di attendere nel disimpegno, poi un'altra persona mi chiede di nuovo se devo pagare con carta, e quindi di attendere la terza persona che finalmente mi raggiunge con il pos. Ma .... Mi chiede ancora se non ho contanti, dopo avergli detto che no, non ne avevo, mi chiede di nuovo se proprio non ho contanti, e di nuovo confermo di non averne. Solo a questo punto imposta l'importo sul pos. mi chiedo come sia possibile che nel 2023, a Bergamo, Bergamo centro, in pieno periodo turistico, si possano ancora assistere a situazioni di questo tipo. Nemmeno più sugli sperduti monti dell'Abruzzo e nemmeno nella provincia di Caserta dove sono appena stato nessun esercizio turistico manifesta più titubanza per la carta di credito. E per tariffe decisamente diverse. Peraltro per un piccolo importo , costituito da primo acqua e caffè (26€). Ma sono ancora fiducioso che prima o poi in Italia...

Authentic, local, charming, rustic. This is what we experienced here. We decided to go “full local” with house wines by the pitcher and the simplest of local fare. All was tasty but not exceptional.

The interior is from days gone by which makes it stand out, and they catered very well to children.
