I’ve been here twice now and rate it 3 stars because its a must see but a word of warning if its busy, just have a drink and leave don’t stay for food. Our Pizzas took 1 hour to arrive and although the staff were nice they had trouble being honest about how long the food would take to arrive even though I had told them we were concerned about catching the last bus back to Taormina from the beginning. They kept saying 2 minutes 2 minutes... after a while we asked again about the time it will take, again concerned about catching the last bus...and were told everywhere is like this in August... everywhere was not! We had eaten at various restaurants for several days before this experience and had visited the region in August before. In the end after them huffing puffing about our request to cancel the Pizza order, they cancelled it and the pizza came out and they gave it to us without charging us as we had already paid for the drinks and 2 pasta dishes which were ready earlier. The Pizza is fantastic and if I had 3 hours then I’d go back. Decor is a must see. But the restaurant needs more staff both front of house and in the kitchen and they are better off being honest...
Read moreOMG! This was the MOST UNEXPECTED DISCOVERY of all our trip to Sicily! Castelmola is a really small village, but if you pass by Taormina, this should be considered a mandatory stop, even just for 2-3 hours. We found ad boards on the road to the village pointing at this bar and when we approached we realised we couldn't have missed it. Almost in front of the church, opposite side of the square and as soon as you see it you will notice there is a theme to this bar. I'm not sure if some could not appreciate, but there are representations of "phallus" in every art and shape, so many it really looses any "inappropriate" connotation and it becomes artistic representation. Worth noticing that this was a symbol of good luck in ancient Rome and they even had a demi-god for that (Priapus). It is nice walking through the various floors, looking at the art on the walls, the floors, the chairs, the handle... Almost everything taken care in painstaking detail. I honestly appreciated it and this put me in a good mood! It was a sunny day, loved it and f passing by that area again I would definitely stop!
And all this not to mention our coffees were...
Read moreThis bar is great. It's such a good find. We went for a hike from Taormina to Castelmola (took around 1.5 hours) and we popped into Bar Turrisi to have a well deserved cold one. The bar its self is just crazy. Everywhere you look there is just artistic painting of penises and when you realize at the start that everything you look at is a penis you get a shock as you don't expect it. After you adventure up to the second, third and fourth floor you soon realize that it isn't just penises placed in random spots, but a work of art. The penises are placed in every right spot. Making this whole bar a work of art. If you can get a seat at the top floor I would recommend it. The view and the peace is worth every step you 'hike' up. It is a great find and I would come back here for a few hours if I had the chance. Take in Mt. Etna and...
