We spent an entire evening there, drinking, laughing and eating food that was so good, that it became our scale to compare other meals in Sicily to it :). The fish, the meats, the salads, the pasta, everything! The staff didn’t speak much English but our Italian was enough to communicate. But when it was too difficult to explain what a meal is, the waiter just told us to wait, went to the kitchen and came back a few minutes later with a plate of meats and other ingredients and showed us which is which, while being so nice and funny, that we wanted to try everything 😂. We did have to wait quite a bit for everything and they did forget a few things (brought them later when we asked) but they had a few big groups and were taking care of everyone so it was understandable. Cena in 5, ieri sera, sabato. Esperienza complessivamente positiva. Premessa necessaria poiché la recensione purtroppo comincia in negativo. La cena era cominciata malissimo perché ci siamo seduti alle 20:30 e abbiamo aspettato mezzora e più per ordinare (21:10ca) ci è stata servita l'acqua, ci sono stati proposti dei vini, ne abbiamo scelto uno e la bottiglia è stata lasciata dal cameriere a tavola sigillata diversi minuti prima che passasse dal tavolo il titolare e ce la stappasse per l'assaggio. Abbiamo poi atteso sino alle 21:45 senza che arrivassero nemmeno gli antipasti (alcuni antipasti erano di terra e comprensivi di salumi e formaggi il cui servizio ci saremmo aspettati essere immediato, è proprio il senso degli antipasti essere serviti velocemente e coprire l'attesa dei piatti principali). L'attesa ci è sembrata eccessiva, era sabato, ma il locale era solo mezzo-pieno. Uno di noi a quel punto si è lamentato con il cameriere che, anziché scusarsi per il ritardo, ha addotto giustificazioni legate all'orario della comanda e all'ordine dei tavoli (che abbiamo trovato insensata poiché non è che si aspetta che il tavolo precedente arrivi al dessert prima di servire al tavolo successivo almeno gli antipasti che non richiedono cottura dei cibi) e ha continuato la discussione. Eravamo sul punto di alzarci e andarcene ma fortunatamente a quel punto il titolare proprietario ha preso le redini della situazione servendoci direttamente con grande gentilezza e professionalità (il cameriere deve essere stato ripreso poiché poi non abbiamo avuto più alcun contatto con lui). Da quel momento in poi il servizio è stato un razzo. La cucina eccezionale del locale ha compensato ulteriormente la "falsa partenza" della cena, con piatti dalla qualità eccellente e ricchi, antipasti davvero graditi, sia quello di mare che quello di terra. Particolare menzione per la caponata e il pesce spada in agrodolce. Subito dopo, con rapidità eccezionale, ci sono stati serviti primi e secondi ricchi e buonissimi con particolare menzione per il filetto di pesce agli agrumi e gli involtini di spada dalla porzione generosa. Il locale (al di là di quanto accaduto a noi, quindi non col senso di risarcire il disagio ma proprio come regola/usanza, lo sappiamo perché eravamo già stati in precedenza, senza incontrare i problemi di servizio di quest'ultima volta) offre ai suoi ospiti un dolce al cioccolato simile a un brownie, molto buono e gradito. A compensazione di quanto accaduto, alla cassa ci è stato fatto uno sconto di circa il 10% molto apprezzato. Ma i prezzi sono comunque onesti e all'altezza della qualità dei cibi. Catania Ruffiana is a true gem that I was lucky enough to discover while talking to our taxi driver from the airport. This restaurant comes highly recommended by the locals, and now I understand why.
