Trattoria Casalinga da Nino Mannino — Restaurant in Catania

Nino is a a traditional local restaurant (trattoria). As I know it is a family kitchen.

The prices are normal. The portions were fine. We ordered a Rigatoni alla Norma (Rigatoni pasta, Norma sauce) which is a local speciality. It was tasty but the pasta was accidentally undercooked. It was around 8€. We ordered something from pork (the waiter recommended it as the speciallity of the place). Well it was not what I expected. The taste was good, I don't want to complain but the bread crumbs were awful.

As a compensation for the inconvenience they gave us a glass of wine for each.

The waiters were very kind. They alwas had time to pay attention to us, even for a small talk as well. So there wasn't a rush. It was a calming and good time we spent here. As I noticed the owner of the trattoria was there as well he talked to the locals and had a good time. He looked very kind.

The road was a bit busy but it does not...

My boyfriend and I randomly walked pass by this restaurant during our first night in Sicily and saw the price were quite cheap then went in. Little did we know the food was sooo delicious!! (and I have high standard for food haha) It's so fresh and well seasoned and the owner was sososo nice. I ordered Spaghetti Con le Vongole and the shrimp starter with lime for starter and my bf ordered the Pasta Catania and everything was so on point. The owner also offered extra free bread, a full dish of fried cuttle fish for free and another free local catanian dish and some free dessert at the end. On top of all, the owner tried his best to talk with us with his limited English and we also tried to talk in Italian. We had some nice chat and the atmosphere of the restaurant was rally chilled. Totally recommend this restaurant!! I still dream about the food now that I'm already in other city in...

I am vegan, so chose the buffet of antipasti and a large salad. The cooked items were delicate and crunchy. When I asked for the bill, they had put higher prices on it than were listed in the menu and when I queried this, they started making excuses instead of correcting the error. It was pretty sad of them to fall at the last hurdle like this, turning a happy new customer into an offended one. They must have taken me for a tourist but instead I live in Catania. If they hadn't pulled this trick I would have gone back many times. I also notice that they have a Trip Advisor Certificate of Excellence posted in the window... but they are not listed on TripAdvisor, which suggests that they bought it from somewhere else.
