Was at fco airport on layover and was hungry but did not have any money in the currency of Euros, only American dollars. I asked an employee if they accepted American money. I don’t think she understood English, and that’s obviously okay, but instead of asking anyone else to translate she started to curse me in Italian. It was clearly an act of racism considering she gave me a dirty look before I had even asked her anything yet, and I am a brown and black women who wears hijab. This was an older lady who had blonde hair and was serving the food over the counter. I’m not sure why me being foreign evoked such a hostile reaction, also keeping in mind that this is an airport (a place where there tends to be diversity.) She gave me a black coffee, no milk. When I asked about the milk she escalated and was extremely hostile. I tried to communicate in both Italian and English. While my sandwich was good, the employee was extremely rude and unprofessional! He lacks patience and should not be working in customer service, especially at an airport where he deals with people of all different languages.
