TL;DR: We stayed in Firenze for 7 days, and went to Enoteca Spontanea 3 times: twice for only drinks, and the third with a reservation for dinner. Highly recommend making a reservation for dinner after a light aperitivo hour, and making time for about 2.5hr of dinner. If you are going for just drinks, go between 5-6:30p, and take a bottle you like to-go to enjoy in your hotel!
The wine selection is great for those who are interested in spontaneous fermentation and especially for those who enjoy beer and are trying to find their way into wine. The owner is kind and eager to speak to all patrons. We thoroughly enjoyed his conversation and kind disposition. For food- make a reservation and be prepared to eat all 4 courses; you will miss out if you do not. The food menu is more than seasonal; in fact it changes every day, and therefore the menu du jour is provided in only in Italian. We are primarily English speaking but were able to navigate most of it with a quick scan with Google Lens on translate mode (they provide a QR code with the WiFi upon being seated). The rest was kindly explained by our waitress before we ordered. Be prepared to be patient and enjoy each glass and/or course slowly as service can be a little slow at times, but itâs...
Read moreThere is a truly reverent charm to this special little nook off the touristic beat. It is a highly personable and personalized experience to eat and drink in the company of Nico and friends. Every sip is thoughtful, considerate, cultivated, unique, and poured with gentleness and explanation. In a country rife with small moments of intimacy and kindness, this whole experience stood out. The menu is progressive, but respectful to and rooted in the bounty of the region. It is beautiful, attractive, wholesome food at least as interesting and enjoyable as the wine.
Make a reservation or you will be disappointed. Donât show up starving or you might also be disappointed, as the service is a bit chaotic and inconsistent. I offer this warning not as disparagement; it is a busy little place and everyone gets as much attention as can possibly be offered. Nico does too much of the service himself - an endearing, but inefficient touch - and I hope Enoteca Spontaneaâs obvious success will allow them to hire just one more person for help. I really think just one more person to take orders, run food, clear/set tables would make all the difference and allow Nico to focus on what he clearly loves most, creating a pure distillation of happiness...

Charming little enoteca in the nicer (IMO đ) and quieter part of Florence across Palazzo Pitti.
Nicola was super nice and passionate about his craft, and it was fun talking to him and learning regardless of whether you are a casual or an experienced drinker.
Natural wine only, but very well curated and tasteful list of very well priced wines (a Rinaldi Barolo for less than âŹ200? What???)
Reservations definitely recommended. We didnât have one but Nicola was kind enough to let us stay and enjoy a bottle throughout the night.
When it was time for us to leave and give up our table for a guest who had reserved the table we were occupying, Nicola offered to arrange a small table at the back so we didnât have to rush to finish our bottle.
Came for the wine, but stayed for the hospitality and experience. Definitely a must visit!
Will come back to try the...
