La Piperna Firenze — Restaurant in Florence

We stayed at the hotel nearby and decided to have a dinner at La Piperna due to proximity and positive reviews.

I'm not sure if we were there on a bad day or it's one of those places where you need to know what to order. We ordered 2 pizzas, which were just average Neapolitan style super-thin crust that ends up soggy quickly. 4-cheese pizza had no tomato sauce and was just a greasy pool of cheese. Not very tasty.

I wanted to try some pasta and asked the server for a recommendation. The only thing I didn't want was seafood but other than that, I thought I made it clear I was open to try anything else. He asked me if I liked cheese (who doesn't? LOL) and my heart sunk when he yelled out the order for Spaghetti Alfredo. Thought I'd keep an open mind and maybe it'd be the best Alfredo on Earth. Well, it wasn't. It was very salty, basically buttered noodles with Parmesan sprinkled on top. It's something you'd recommend to a toddler, not a grown-up asking for your best dish.

We were charged 2 EUR per person "service fee", which is now the thing at every restaurant. But after we got our food, there was no service. No one stopped by to ask if we needed anything or how the food was. The server just moved on to other, larger and more profitable party. Had to chase someone to pay the bill. Sono stato in questa pizzeria per una serata con amici e relativi figli e devo dire che mi sono trovato molto bene.

Appena arrivati abbiamo scoperto che i nostri tavoli si trovavano nella veranda esterna e dato che la serata era molto fredda non ero particolarmente felice di questa scelta, invece la veranda esterna (distaccata dal locale) è molto ben fatta e ho trovato la temperatura al suo interno ideale. Oddio è vero che la sistemazione è molto "sulla strada", ma sull'ora di cena non c'è molto movimento e abbiamo appena notato di essere così vicini alle auto di passaggio. Un cameriere appositamente dedicato ai tavoli "esterni" ha permesso di non sentire la differenza tra essere all'esterno o all'interno del locale.

Visto il menù molto invitate abbiamo subito optato per dividere due antipasti tra i 4 commensali adulti presenti, la scelta dei due antipasti di fritto in cui erano presenti varie frittura (ricotta, sformato di pasta, mozzarella, crocchette di patate e 4 piccole pizze fritte con pomodoro e formaggio) si è subito rivelata valida. Il fritto non era eccezionale ma piuttosto buono e la quantità era valida per sfamare noi e dare qualche piccolo assaggio anche ai bambini.

Tralasciando a dispiacere dei primi piatti che sembravano molto invitanti abbiamo optato tutti per delle pizze. Che sono arrivate con suffciiente velocità e che sopratutto erano molto buone! La mia margherita con bufala si è rivelata sufficientemente spessa, con un bordo alto e cotto perfettamente. Tutte le pizze si sono rivelate buone, con particolare sorpresa di quella con "la burrata" che presentava una burrata di 200gr posta "a freddo" sulla pizza e che è stata piacevolmente sparsa sulla pizza e assaggiata anche separatamente.

Non posso parlare molto del locale al suo interno, ma posso dire che vista la qualità delle pizze sicuramente tornerò volentieri a mangiare in questo locale e che lo consiglio...

Unfortunately, today I had a horrible experience with the pizza and the pasta I got from this place. After a week's time in various parts of Italy like Milan , Venice etc, I thought none can disappoint me with the food here but this restaurant proved me wrong. After waiting for more than an hour, i got a pizza which is not only tasteless but totally soggy and a pasta which is completely uncooked.
