Ok, everybody. You can stop looking for the perfect place to relax, enjoy and eat wonderful food prepared and served to you by exemplary people. I have been visiting Florence for 25 years so I’d say with confidence that I know a good thing when I see it. There are things that make Italian food in Italy so good; freshness, quality, high standards, proprietary recipes, and most importantly to me, accessibility of great food to literally anyone. This place has all of those things and more. We were here 5 nights this trip and ate there I believe, 4 times. I was used to walking myself a fair distance to restaurants and cafes that I prefer on the other side of the river, but we lucked out and found this place just down the street. Every item we ate, the food made us gasp a little with how delicious it was. I’ve never quite had anything like their tiramisu and believe me, I’ve eaten just about every iteration of this dessert. Their Pizza is classically and discernibly Italian; easy on the eyes, flavor that rolls your eyes back into your head and suddenly you begin to gesticulate wildly because you can’t use words to express pleasure any longer. The folks who work there are all, every single one of them that I met, beautifully authentic. In a lot of Florentine places, you experience a scurry from waitstaff, or a hesitance or even disdain when you are obviously American. While I do speak Italian, it is heavily flawed with large gaps in practical vocabulary. I love this language so much and always do my best to communicate in Italian and for most interactions, there isn’t more than transactional language needed. At Mirò however, the staff were very patient with my Italian and switched between English and Italian as needed. I never felt like a fool for using what little I know and mostly, I don’t get much of an opportunity to practice Italian where I live, so it feels precious and important to me to speak Italian when I am here. For any of my LGBTQAI+ contemporaries, you will be SAFE here. I was treated delightfully and with as much respect as anyone should be. This will not be the case everywhere in Florence so please choose wisely. My suggestion is to make Mirò your home base for food while in Florence, you will remember the food for your entire life. Grazie mille, to your entire staff, my most heartfelt compliments and thanks. Our trip would not have been as memorable without your great culinary contribution to both...
Read moreThey charged me for three people to sit as one person at a two person table. That said, they charged me 6 euro to eat my meal sitting down when it should have been 2 euro, 4 euro max if they were to charge me for one empty seat at a two person table. I was also the first and only person here, right when they opened at 6:30 PM. For nearly the entire dinner I sat alone with no customers at all, so it was not in demand or busy by any means. In Italy, it is indeed illegal to overcharge tourists or any diners for service fees or cover charges that aren’t transparently listed on the menu. Italian consumer protection laws require that any additional fees, like a coperto or service charge, must be clearly stated on the menu. Overcharging or adding hidden fees is not only unethical but also a violation of these regulations.
That said, the pizza was very tasty, their dough was difficult to cut though and had to saw a lot. The tiramisu was also tasty with a pretty presentation. They did charge for the water as well, which is just tap water in their own water bottle they refill and refrigerate.
It was good, but due to this I wouldn’t go back or recommend a place taking advantage...
Read moreWe had a reservation for 8 people. There was some confusion when we arrived but eventually they put us at a table for ten. We ordered starters and pizza. The pizzas arrived before we even got our last starter which is not the end of the world but still a little unpleasant. What was extremely strange tho is that they seated two complete strangers at our table. They both arrived alone and they put them at the end of our table which not only felt strange to us but must have felt extremely weird for the two strangers that had to sit across from each other. In addition to that some plates were taken away while people were still eating and we were being told to order desserts quickly because there was another reservation for that table. At that point we had only been there for 50 minutes. I’m certain they wouldn’t have done the same thing if we were Italians.
Another time when I went here for lunch I had to explicitly ask for bread to scoop up the pasta sauce which felt like I got the tourist treatment once again.
So over all: The food is great but the service has to...
