Just finished a horrendous experience at O Munaciello. After having been recommended this restaurant by a local, we were excited for our last meal in Florence. Upon arrival we were told to wait for 15 minutes for a table which was fine with us as we hadn’t booked. Unfortunately for us, we soon realised that us and one other couple had been put in the room with an event taking place (it seemed to be an rowdy engagement party). At first we thought it would be fine and we proceeded to place our order with the waitress. It soon became very clear that perhaps the staff should’ve reserved the entire area for this event and not try squeeze outside other customers into this space. The group were extremely loud, to the point that myself and my partner couldn’t even hear each other. I politely asked the waitress if she could move us into the other room without the event as from my line of view I could see two empty tables. She said she would check and never returned. We received our meals but had still not heard from the waitress so I went up to the counter to ask the lady if there was any spare tables in the other room. She rudely told me that no there wasn’t as I did not book a table and proceeded to turn around. I went back to our table and finished our meal quickly to get out of there. We went to the counter to pay for our meal and I told the lady that the entire time we were sat at our table, i could see two free tables in the other room. She was VERY aggressive and told me that they were reserved, however you would think that if a reservation didn’t turn up for an hour, you would assume they weren’t coming and perhaps you could please an already paying customer by swapping them to that table. The worst part of the experience would have to be the lack of customer service. I have never experienced such an aggressive angry and unpleasant reaction from restaurant staff. I told her it would’ve been nice if she had told me an event was happening in that room and she said she was not obliged to tell me that and just blamed the fact I didn’t have a reservation - but you would think that would’ve been courteous and good customer service to actually understand that at dinner you want to be able to at least have a conversation with your partner! I would rather have been turned away than sat there unable to speak to my partner. I told her I did not want to pay the service charge given our service was not great and our experience was not enjoyable. She told me I was absurd. But what really was absurd was her tone speaking to a customer like that. Aggressive and angry, don’t waste your time...
Read moreUpdate: interesting the restaurant solely focused on the unevenly cooked dough rather than our experience as a whole. I ate the parts that were cooked and did not want to eat the gummy uncooked parts. Regardless of where the dough originated this dough was cooked in your restaurant. I modified my review to a 1 to reflect the poor management of this business as well. Everyone we spoke to about this was shocked at the experience we had and how long it took to get the pizzas. Blatantly saying they pushed our order aside because other pizzas were “easier to make “ is wild. Again, worst experience we’ve ever had in Italy. Here is the math for you: arrival 7pm, good delivered to our table after we asked while it was taking so long 8:45pm. The restaurant is even shocked at how long it took and can’t even believe it. That’s how bad this was.
By far, the worst experience we’ve had in Florence. The only reason I’ve given a 2 stars is because the tomato sauce and some of the flavor was good, and had some potential of being great. I can’t think of anything that was positive from this dining experience but it was recommended by our hotel so we had to try it. Here’s a photo of uncooked dough after waiting almost 2 hours for it to be made (first people in the restaurant and the last ones to get our food after they kept serving people who kept walking in). After waiting so long, you’d think the orders would be correct and cooked properly....
Read moreAppalling. We went here based on a recommendation by an Italian wine tour guide so had high hopes for good, authentic, Italian pizza. We sat down to a full English menu with about 30 pizzas to choose from - warning sign number 1. We ordered some pizzas and I asked for just some house wine and in a carafe if possible as we didn't want a whole bottle (this is typically how wine is served in Italy anyway). The waitress said 'What?' so I politely asked again thinking she had misheard me and she said 'No, we do it by bottle or glass and your wine menu is at the back of the food menu.' Ok, and so I Iooked for the menu at the back of the food menu but couldn't find it and so she snatched the menu from me, frustrated - realised it wasn't there, threw the menu down and slammed another one on our table. We should have just left there and then but we were hungry. The pizza turned up and it was shocking. The ingredients slapped on and the plate may as well have just been thrown in my face. I know people have bad days and must be sick of tourists but I was respectful enough to make the effort to speak in Italian and smile - I'm not hard to please but I do like good food and expect good service. I get better pizza from my local Tesco Express and better service from the...
