Raices Latin Food | Sole — Restaurant in Florence

We waited until dinner to eat at Raices. When we popped in at lunch that day they were full with a 45 minute wait. The atmosphere is OK, but the music was a bit loud. Comfortable inside seating is available, however it seemed to us this was really focused on takeaway and delivery orders. At the counter, we ordered Mexican and were very disappointed, because we expected the style of Mexican food that we ate in California for over 40 years. Realizing the style was different, we kept an open mind. We felt the servings were very small for the price charged. A taco was made with dry carnitas that had some sort of brown sauce on them. There was a sprinkling of cilantro and were served on a very small (street-sized) corn tortilla. The tortilla was also dry. Some cheese would have been nice. We wish we had tried the Venezuelan food which we heard later was excellent. The menu has a nice variety of dishes and beverages, both Mexican and Venezuelan. Everything is served in takeaway containers and cutlery. Not much care was taken with the presentation. I really disliked the Styrofoam plate and plastic fork. So I’m going to give this place five stars for effort I was so excited to get some Latin flavor.. food is just ok marginal at best, if you got exited about some flavorful salsa.. mehhh nowhere close to authentic. I’m going to write off the horrible service to the fact that it’s June 2024 and the Euros 2024 football tournament is on, the cooks are chilling drinking beer in the back watching the game and if you’re hoping to get some quality tacos or burritos good luck. The waiters are pissed because this place is overrun with tourist and frankly it clearly shows that they’re underpaid, miserable and just don’t want to be there. We recently ordered takeout from Raíces Latin Food, which specializes in Mexican and Venezuelan dishes. We had the Tacos al Pastor, Cochinita Tacos, and some empanadas, and the food was really good! Being from Mexico and after spending a few weeks in Europe, we were craving something that reminded us of home. The food in Europe is great, but after a while, it starts to feel similar, so this was a nice change.

The restaurant was busy and had a great atmosphere. The cashier was super friendly, and overall, the experience exceeded our expectations, especially considering how far we are from home. The prices did seem a little high, but that’s probably because we’re used to prices in Mexico. All in all, we would definitely recommend Raíces for anyone looking for authentic...
