My group and I left the restaurant before our food was brought to us. Prices are exorbitant. The bread is stale. We asked the waiter for olive oil and he curtly said "no more" and left. However, bottles of olive oil were clearly available near the waiters' station. An Italian customer sat right next to us. She was welcomed very warmly and was promptly offered olive oil (by the same waiter who served our table). The stark contrast in service seemed discriminatory. The Wifi password was outdated. The manager told us to ask the waiter for the updated password and the waiter again curtly said it didn't work. We felt our waiter was rude to us and we did not feel welcome in this restaurant. Florence has an abundance of great restaurants, and Mamma Gina is not part of that group of enjoyable restaurants. In fact, we went to a nearby restaurant to finally have our dinner and the waitress was amazingly nice, the prices were reasonable and the ambiance was much...
Read moreProbably as close as you can get to traditional homemade tuscan food. A raw experience, I went there twice to try meals like ribollita, cervello di vitello, delicious cavolo nero, fegato alla veneziana, pasta e fagioli, and I was served a miracoulously delicious seasonal salad (winter) with just the perfect olive oil. Waiters are the best, very cordial. Tuscan food as served here appears not to be very refined or sophisticated. it's high on calories (you need a strong stomach, indeed), draws its taste from the pure goodness of its raw material and produce. Vegetables seem to have immensely more taste even in winter than elsewhere. At Trattoria Mamma Gina, they won't win any prices for elegant plates and nicely decorated dishes. Some of the recipes really seem to have survived from the times of the city's great age. Table wine is okay, I recommend wines from the 'SuperTuscan' series, though: great quality at reasonable prices. (Mark from...
Read moreI found this place through Reddit and it was really good. We reserved in the morning of and then it was just me and my mom. You can sit and see into the street and watch people pass by. Lovely.
There's two rooms available. We went to the one that is next to the main one which was really nice. The decoration, the ambiance, and it was all really cozy and it looked very authentic and the food was really good.
That was one of the best steaks I've had in my life and we shared it with my mom. We had some appetizers as well and then for dessert we tried the tiramisu. It was good but it was not the best but it was really in my top 10 I would say. The ravioli with pistachios was truly amazing. So creamy and delicious.
I would definitely reserve ahead and then make sure I go there again. I can still taste the meat. It was amazing and the staff is really nice and helpful. They speak...
