Our dinner at Osteria del Pavone was one of the best and truly delightful as I recall. We entered through the charming Osteria del Cinghiale Bianco & got to Osteria del Pavone. Since we didn’t have a reservation at Bianco restaurant the staff guided us thru to Pavone restaurant to a cozy spot at the bar counter. That was incredibly kind and accommodating. I guess they both belonged to the same owner as we were given menus from both the restaurants to order food. Both the restaurants had beautiful decor. One carried a traditional charm & the other a modern tone. We kicked off our meal with complimentary bread & olive oil. We ordered a refreshing Aperol Spritz and a glass of Chianti Classico. For starters, we dove into a creamy burrata topped with freshly shaved truffles and olive oil an intriguing combination of grilled crostini with toasted bread, anchovies, and a flavorful green paste & a sprinkle of olive oil. It was a unique and delicious combo to start with! For our main courses, we enjoyed a show-stopping dish, Chicken breast with pecorino and truffle & this dish was, without a doubt, the best and one of the highlight of our entire trip, & wife ordered wild boar ragu was equally satisfying. Both mains were perfectly complemented by two glasses of Bolgheri red wine. A special shout out to our bartender, who was not only knowledgeable about the menus and wine selections but also incredibly friendly and helpful, making our dinner experience even more enjoyable. We thoroughly savored every moment and every bite at Osteria del Pavone/ Osteria del Cinghiale Bianco. I highly recommend this bar & restaurant to anyone traveling...
Read moreMy husband and I were here in May 2024 while on a trip to Italy for our 10 year anniversary. We still talk about this meal. Everything was perfect, the food, our waiter, the wine, espresso martinis. Everything! This restaurant was a suggestion of our rental host and we are so glad she suggested it.
Our waiter was marvelous. We told him what we were thinking about getting and mentioned we had been on several wine tours and not yet found a white that we liked from the region. He adjusted our food order a bit and then brought a really delightful white (we have looked at getting it shipped to us in the future too and even found a wine shop in Chicago that carries it!). The onion flan was AMAZING. if you don’t like onion don’t get it but if you remotely like onions get it. Wow! Just wow. The octopus was also delightful. We just really enjoyed our entire meal. We would change nothing.
Our waiter checked on us the perfect amount. He was friendly. You could tell he was a seasoned fine dinning waiter. He joked with us. We loved it. At the end of dinner I mentioned it was our last night in Florence and could he bring me a glass of red wine that he would give to someone potentially never coming back to the region. It was my second favorite of our time in Italy!
I am missing pictures of several items! I can’t believe I didn’t take one of the octopus!
My one small complaint is that we were sat in the very first front room. Which was layout a bit oddly and I wish we had been able to see farther into...
Read moreDine here, you won't regret it. A bit more expensive than your average trattoria or osteria, but worth the price.
Situated prominently at the end of an alleyway right nearby our favorite little piazza (Piazza della Passera) sits Osteria Del Pavone. It's an attractive restaurant front with a lit up front door that slides open into a cozy, but comfortable bar area with 2 dining rooms is separate from the bar.
The food and wine options are fantastic, and the staff (in our experience) was very friendly, attentive, and knowledgable. From what we saw, it's the kind of place that caters to your desire - do you want to be left alone for a romantic evening? They'll make it happen. Do you want to learn about new wines, and have their fantastic sommelier take you on a journey? This option is available (and the one I would recommend!). Make a reservation and you can eat here with a sizable group, but most diners seemed to come in 2's and 4's. There's 2 rooms for dining (as previously mentioned), neither of which are particularly large. They're spacious but still keep the feeling of an intimate setting.
To surmise, yes, it may be a little more expensive than other options nearby, but again, you won't regret it. Once you take your first bites/sips, you realize it's worth every penny. We're not the wealthiest people and were happy to pay the check when we left. A...
