Recently renovated in a typical Middle Ages building, the hotel offers spanking new rooms with baths, spectacular views of the Umbrian countryside, all amenities, some baths with jacuzzi tubs, excellent attached restaurant. Very amiable staff, willing and helpful. Vin Santo and cantuccini offered on arrival (or whatever drink one's heart desires). Digitally controlled AC, beautiful hard wood floors, divine mattresses, linens. Very affordable.Only disadvantage: no elevator. Up 4 flights of stairs to our room (actually a suite with attached second bedroom with fireplace). The staff, of course, carried up (and down), our luggage.Gubbio is a jewel, and the Hotel Dei Consoli a real find. Stayed there last week, around $170 per night including buffet breakfast. Rooms perfectly equipped, bathroom small but with everything you need and a large shower, nice bed and pillows. Personnel extremely polite and helpful. Different option to park the car within reasonable walking distance. Why not the five star? Because you need to climb the stairs to get into your room and the TV set is bit small for the room. Get me right though......this is Gubbio, in the City Centre few structures have elevators and you will not spend time watching TV. But to the respect of the readers these things must be...
