Il Covo — Restaurant in Livorno

The place is a bit dodgy. The tables outside that are so charming are actually pretty old and disintegrating. The portions are small. Ordered orata al forno - a joke, some fish fillet from the one side of the fish only, and this for 15€. Then ravioli - also a small portion, nothing special, the 3 appetizers only the shrimp was really good (one can order 4 shrimps for less than the 15€ we paid), then we had the pasta with polpo - it was the only really good one, but not too much either. The bottle of wine for 12€ was tasteless. In sum, a scam on the quantity and sometimes on the quality as well. Do not get all the positive assessments. The waitress was also a bit chaotic. The kitchen opens...

One of the best restaurants we've visited during this trip to Italy. The fish was marvelous and the pasta Bolognese one of the best I've ever had! The service was quick, could speak English and was very friendly. Wat aan de buitenkant leek op een piratenbar waar je alleen grote stukken vlees kon eten, bleek in werkelijkheid een absolute parel te zijn! Naast de ontzettend vriendelijke bediening, waanzinnige locatie was vooral het eten wat heeft bijgedragen aan een fantastische ervaring.

Het begon voor mij met een ongelofelijk verfijnde kabeljauwroom met krokante polenta, waar mijn vrouw een zeer smaakvolle zeebrasem met tomatensaus had. De presentatie, was gezien het ruige karakter van de omgeving van het restaurant, erg deftig.

Voor hoofdgerecht hadden we beide een gnocco met zeebaars, die wederom fraai was gepresenteerd en absoluut verukkelijk smaakte.

Als afsluiting een prachtige, smaakvolle cheesecake voor haar, en voor mij een Italiaanse verassing. (Ik weet de naam niet meer).

Al met al een prachtig restaurant wat absoluut het bezoeken waard is als je in Livorno bent, of in de buurt. Heerlijke gerechten, attente bediening en alle gerechten volgen elkaar in een mooi tempo op. Helaas is het voor ons...
