Undici Undici — Restaurant in Lucca

This became our favorite place to get a Spritz or cocktail in Lucca and we went there several times on our trip. We felt very welcome by the lovely staff and after a week felt like regulars!

Undici undici is on a pretty piazza in front of the Duomo di San Martino, facing the church and a fountain. It has ample shade from two huge umbrellas. The atmosphere there is friendly, and the clients a mix of locals and tourists. Prices are very reasonable.

We ate their twice - not because the food is awesome (it's a little hit or miss, if I'm honest about it), but because the experience is so very good. The tacos from the Bistro menu were a hit as was (criminally) the hamburger, when I was craving something other than "traditional" food. It's bar food, and viewed through that lens it's good. It's not going to top a Michelin starred spot - but it also costs a lot less.

What made this place heavenly for us were three things: the very friendly and amicable staff, who treated us so well. The fantastic drinks - perhaps the best Spritz and Negroni in Lucca. The dreamy location, in the day, or even better, at night. Watching the moon rise in the square was unforgettable.

One of the handful of night-time congregation spots in Lucca. During the summer they have lots of outside tables and their good tasty restaurant during the day. At night lots of people come here to hang out usually there's at least music playing and sometimes even live acts! They also have a room in the back which is a nice place to hang out and still be able to talk to people if the music is loud. My only complaint is that the drinks a little bit on the pricey side. €6 for beers too much, when beer is already over...

I'm sorry, but I have to say that it was the worst food I've ever got in any restaurant. I ordered grilled chicken and potatoes, and a mixed salad. The chicken and potatoes were fried so dry and tough that I don't know how that's even possible. The vegetables in the mixed salad were not fresh, there were darkened watery leaves in the salad and the tomatoes were overripe. I couldn't eat it. The food was horrible and the prices were really expensive for the quality, I can't recommend...
