We enjoyed 2 meals at Leoncino Rosso during our visit. Both were absolutely fantastic!!! If you want to eat earlier it’s highly recommended to get a reservation. For lunch I arrived at 1:30 and waited 10-15 minutes for a table. The staff were friendly and foot was outstanding! We tried dinner as a group of 5 without a reservation and were told to return at 9pm. The next night we arrived at 9 and were seated immediately. Highly recommend for those visiting Mantua!

Per me è un no… Siamo stati a Mantova qualche settimana fa, e un grande errore l’abbiamo fatto: non abbiamo prenotato. Tuttavia, secondo me questo non giustifica il resto… Abbiamo aspettato un’ora e mezza per poterci accomodare, e nel mentre, nessuno ci ha chiesto se avessimo intenzione di “prenotare” un tavolo non appena si fosse liberato. Non siamo andati via solo perché anche gli altri ristoranti erano al completo, e avevamo davvero voglia di provare qualche piatto tipico… Seduti finalmente al tavolo, abbiamo ordinato, ma con nostro dispiacere ci hanno comunicato di aver finito lo stracotto, una delle specialità mantovane. Ci sono stati ulteriori tempi di attesa piuttosto lunghi per ordinare e per mangiare, e infatti la proprietaria (immagino) ci ha offerto del salame da mangiare nel mentre: questo l’abbiamo apprezzato, e penso sia stata l’unica nota positiva. Nonostante questo, mi sarebbe piaciuto dare una valutazione positiva, ma purtroppo quello che abbiamo mangiato in seguito non ci ha soddisfatti. Né il risotto alla mantovana, né i tortelli di zucca, lo spezzatino (preso al posto dello stracotto) e i dolci… Peccato perché la location vista da fuori sembra carina, e viste le recensioni positive mi aspettavo molto meglio. Non so se abbiamo beccato una giornata poco fortunata, ma in ogni caso non mi sento di consigliarlo e non ci tornerò.

Einmal und nie wieder! Gleich bei der Ankunft hatte man den Eindruck, dass man nicht wirklich willkommen ist. Da hätten wir eigentlich gleich wieder umdrehen sollen. Nachdem uns ein Platz zugewiesen wurde, wurden wir erst einmal mindestens 45 min. ignoriert. Tische wurden abgeräumt etc., obwohl nicht mehr viel los war, die beiden Kellner gingen zick mal an uns vorbei und erst nachdem wir uns bemerkbar gemacht haben, fand man es dann nach weiteren 5 min. mal für notwendig unsere Bestellung aufzunehmen. 1 Flasche Wasser, 2 kl. Bier, 2 x Nudeln. Obwohl der Kellner nachgefragt hatte, 1 oder 2 Bier, kam dann letztendlich 1 zu wenig. Ok, damit konnten wir leben und hätten deswegen sicher keine schlechte Bewertung abgegeben, aber das war nicht alles. Im Brotkorb war angerissenes Baguette. Das heißt, der Korb stand schon einmal an einem Tisch bei anderen Gästen. Das geht gar nicht!!! Die Nudeln waren ok, mehr aber auch nicht. Die typische Größe an Vorspeisenportion, wie in Italien üblich, was OK ist, das weiß man. Die Soße von den Tortelloni mit Walnüssen war geschmacklos und hatte kaum Würze. Von Walnüssen weit und breit nichts zu sehen, lediglich etwas zermahlen in der Soße. Die Tagliatelle mit Spezialsoße waren ok, aber nichts Besonderes. Wie das Lokal an diese Bewertung kommt, ist uns ein Rätsel.

On a Tuesday night we - a company of two -made the mistake of choosing this restaurant for dinner. Location was lovely. We arrived early and had a free pick of tables. No reservations in sight. When we were ready to order, we were told that we both had to choose the same dish - no exceptions. So we did. However, minutes later another couple arrived. Surprisingly, they were allowed to choose different dishes. We asked the manager how this was possible and he claimed that they were part of a group of three. The supposed third party, an elderly gentleman, obviously had nothing to do with this couple (he was at another table, paid his own bill and left on his own). At least one other couple were allowed to order different dishes. We didn't have a reservation so, we had to wait quite long but, it was totally worth it! The food was amazing, the house red wine was super good and the staff is wonderful! We had a great experience! We had a mix entry place of cold cuts and cheeses and for the main dishes, we had the Stracotto Mantovano con Polenta, Spezattino alla Mantovana and our little 5 year old had the Macheronni allo Stracotto! Everything was DELICIOUS! The only thing we were sad is that we didn't get to try their desserts, they looked also delicious! We can only highly recommend this restaurant to others and we hope to...

Was having dinner on the 10th of July, extraordinary warm evening. Food was average; an highlight on Ravioli Amari (stuffed with salvia and rosmarino), and a lowlight (semifreddo alla pesca), pretty “seasoned”, likely due to temperature.
